Pokewalker keeps resetting?

So my Pokewalker keeps resetting for.. some reason. Previous steps are fine, but today's steps and Watts keep disappearing. The device still turns on, mind you, and it doesn't seem like the battery is loose. How do I tell if the battery life is on its way out? And if it's not how I'm describing it, how/what should I do to make my pokewalker work again? This is my third one (lost 1 & 2) and I really don't want it broken :c
