What about making the game think you have, say, -1000 badges? With that cheap equation from earlier, that'd entail into a ton more playable events without BSoD'n, yea?

I'm not exactly counting but I've been entering and leaving battles in Ilex Forest for a while now and still no crash. Got 1 badge only, and I'm using no$gba 2.6. Will see if it keeps on going like this and say something.
EDIT: Actually, anyone got a save for later on? Guess I'll try and see if it crashes after 3rd badge.

The most common freeze I get is at the beggining of a battle when the pokeballs that represent how many team members you have roll onto the screen and get locked in their spinning animation.

I don't think we have a way to do that.
Because there's only 16 badges in the game, the space needed to store such a piece of data is low so the lowest we can make the game think we have is 0, or -1(2^4) if they decided for some reason to use a signed value that stores from -16 to 16.
