On a note important to the topic, a few pages back someone asked to try this code, due to it being altered during run instead of staying the same as in the rom form.

It causes it to black screen.

Using this code:
94000130 FFFD0000
22260344 0000004D
22260344 000000E5

It loads normal, and is activated when you press B.
However, it does nothing so editing these values has had no effect.

Sorry, just getting off my antipsychotics, so I'm abit ... off center.

In anycase,

I'm guessing the AP is tied in with the badges, in some degree, where as 0 badges probably has a variable of at least 1 - and, as the badges increase so does the variable, and in some happy equation results in crashing.

But is it because of something checking the badges? Or is it the badges themselves?

Never thought the AP would be so different to the Japanese version...

I think that's why so many people are getting frustrated over this, because they think it should be really easy to crack since it's been done once before.
