You can talk to it and it'll OVERWHELM you with cuteness by responding with cute actions depending on where you are, what's going on, it's mood, and even which NPCs are near.

But if you're not depressed and in need of a cute overload, then no, nothing other than the ability to judge it's happiness level (useful for those that evolve based on it).

Don't forget that your Pokemon might pick something up and give it to you. I had one of mine give me a scale of some sort. I'm thinking that when you move over the ground where something is hidden the pokemon picks it up. If you talk to it, it'll give it to you.

This all has made me think.. what if the AP checks for the hardware ID of the pokewalker IR port, and if it is missing it starts the event crash counter? Maybe the Akaio firmware has this address used or something.

Not what it should have. At least, mine doesn't. It just has the same kind of "gap", as you call it which is really just an indent, that all of my other games have...

I haven't bought a DS game since Diamond, so I don't know if they changed the design but this cartridge definitely looks and feels different than all my other, older games. I don't know if it's because of the IR, or if they just changed the material used to make the cartridges now.

Yes it's definitely IR, you didn't see it before because you only saw pictures of the front side of the Pokewalker.

The manual states it's IR, and it has the same kind of shiny, black...top part that all remotes have. Even the Wiimote has one. And I think it IS a different material. Compare the gamecard colors, and you'll notice a big different.
