You're correct.
IR is built into the card so people on a DS/Lite would still be able to trade/battle via IR.

I am using Acekard 2i with Pokemon White can I use IR?
can we still battle?

If I remember correctly, the IR feature is for box trades and quick battles.

If I am correct about the three girls oin the center, left for union room (trade), middle for stadium battle and right for wifi stuff.

What is the point in having IR in this day and age? The DS has built-in wireless communications, why force users to use a crappy outdated communication standard used as far back as the Gameboy Colour which will refuse to work unless the two game carts are pointing directly at each other? If this is as an Anti-Piracy measure, I am disgusted that Nintendo would jeopardize genuine customers enjoyment of the game by forcing this pathetic technology upon them, in an attempt to stop pirates, which clearly won't even work anyway.

could it be possible that you can use the IR to connect to the pokewalker from hg/ss?
just a thought though.

You Can Trade and Battle Without the IR
Just Go to the Pokemon Center and Go Upstairs
and its the second Room for battles and the 1st room
is for Trades and the 3rd room is for WiFi

So what's the point of the IR? There's got to be some point, or ninty wouldn't have added it, inflating the cost and deflating their profits

There is a point. The IR feature allows you to trade from your box and battle on the spot rather than do it in the centre. I guess it's a slight loss but such a thing doesn't affect me.

Still seems completely pointless addition. Why couldn't they just use the DS' built in wireless comm. like they do for other stuff and for every other game, and reduce the cost to them and increase their profits? Do they really think that a lame attempt at reducing piracy like this is worth losing money on the sales they WILL make, and also worth reducing legitimate owner's enjoyment (DS' wireless > IR, definitely. IR is always less enjoyable because it needs to be in line wit h each other etc, which is just awkward)?

Perhaps they used IR instead of Wireless to prevent players from encountering other people trying to trade/battle.

I feel like IR is outdated and not useful. Other than being an anti piracy measure. i guess.

Going to the first lady (the left one claimed to be used for trading) gives me a black screen. I get in the elevator, music plays, both screens stay black, what's that about?

It's part anti-piracy, I'd say. But from what I've seen, IR Trades are MUCH MUCH faster than trades using the built-in wireless. Simply select trade, point your DSes at one another and BAM! Traded.
