I'd use this, but it severly slows down booting, I dont think its worth it.

It just adds one or two seconds... that depends on the length of the mp3 music playing, you can see it after I'm done with uploading videos...
You'll never get fancy stuff like this with modifying system menu files... just a plain picture...

Does this resize the picture or will you need to manually resize?

And if you don't have a picture, will it display a default or no picture?

And lastly, will it store them in the Wii's NAND later on so you don't always need a SD?

I really like it

But the fact that it slows down booting makes me think if I will keep on using it....

Very nice...
Wonder what will be next...

Flash Movies or avis would be great...

You need to manually resize the picture before putting it on sd card...
If you don't have a picture it will just complain that it didn't found the picture and will directly return to the system menu
Hmm, that didn't even tripped into my mind, fatal flaw of not making beta tests

The initial version included the mp3+jpeg in the dol binary so you didn't need the sd card actually... now to make it customizable I made it load that stuff from sd card..
First I thought of a pc application that can inject the mp3 and jpeg into the application but once the fat stuff worked with preloader I shelved that idea...

Now I think it's best to have both... a standard jpeg&mp3 in the binary that's used if you don't have sd card inserted or no custom files available there...
and displaying playing the custom one if you do have the sd card and custom files there...

Nice catch!

ps: and about the nand stuff, I don't want to directly encourage copying files to the nand, so I'll never use such a mechanism...

does the image have to be a certain size??

yep sorry for that... image should be 640x480 jpeg...

just tested and I like!!!

1 thing ..how about when the music stops ,it auto proceeds to the system menu instead of having to press "A"..?

It's in the todo list, but in everyday use you would already press A in a few seconds

Having a 20-30 seconds of music will do the job for now

Added some videos, check them out...

This looks very cool!! First I need to get Softmii going and then can't wait to try it out. being able to have random pics would be awesome!!!!

it's code dumping on me. put the .dol in root and loaded it into preloader. have a 640x480 jpg as boot.jpg in sd root. have a boot.mp3 in root of sd. have tried 3 different pics and 3 different sound files. Running the whole sheband of mods... CIOS/SoftMii/etc.....

Is this not working for anybody else??

EDIT: POC releases both worked fine.

EDIT2: OK, starting to get it working by using a 608x456 size jpg

Same for me. Tried several mp3 and jpg - allways dump code

are any gamecube controllers or memory cards plugged in?
No

Could you test it again with these preloader settings,

autoboot : file
return to systemenu
shutdown to off
stop disc : off
show beta updates : off
light slot on error : off
Tried these settings. Doesn't work.

Tried to reinstall preloader and clear hacks.ini - doesn't work.

i'll report back further in a few.. might be an issue with pic size and widescreen/normal settings or someting like that.

Does the .dol have to be a particular name? i just made it boot.dol and loaded it into preloader as that.

EDIT: Ok, here's what's happening. The 608x456 pic loads and displays while the mp3 is loading.... for about 7-8 seconds for 4 meg mp3. Im assuming when the song has finished loading then code dump. With short sound file it dumps much faster hence dump seems to come after file gets finished loading and starts to play.

Did you 608x456 for widescreen-fix? And it worked?
I try now with a big mp3.

Okay... did it. 20MB mp3-file (14min), installs very quick dol file and loads directly with dump-code (shows up boot.jpg for about 1/100sec).
