Well too much softmodding stuff... here is something you can use safely... no system menu patching, no ios bashing, no big boot delays, nothing...

1. Install preloader v0.27
2. Copy the dol to root of the sd card and configure it autoboot in preloader settings
3. Set return to setting as system menu in the preloader options... save the settings
4. Copy your custom intro picture as boot.jpg and mp3 as boot.mp3 into the root of your sd card... (bigger the mp3, longer the loading time for music)
5. Boot your wii

In the intro screen press A to boot into system menu, press B to boot into homebrew channel...

Preloader hacks will act normal... so it's nice to set no health and warning screen patch to enabled!

Here is the initial customizable version :

http://www.tepetaklak.com/data/CrazyIntroV0.3.rar
* Shutdown with wiimote works... Normal power button or reset doesn't work, probably interferes with mp3 playing... yet to be resolved. (upgrading to preloader 0.28 solves this issue)
* Made it somewhat configurable, you can assign channels to directional buttons in the wiimote and quick boot into them.
Example config xml provided. PictureIntroEffect and PictureOutroEffect settings have no use at the moment.
You should put the xml configuration file in the root of the sd card. It should be named crazyintro.xml .

Example config file :

* Added loading system menu when music stops
* Possibly fixed a file reading bug, if there was

ps: It's intentionally not doing any hacks since preloader already does that... so this intended to be used by those who already have no problem playing their games... especially modded wii owners, I'm shouting to you

Well not a movie this time... although video can be made too... anything can be made... it's the preloader doing the most of the work after all... thanks to crediar!!

This quick one I throw is just a single jpeg displaying and a mp3 track played along with it...

Brick risk equal to preloader's brick risk... not more than that...

Nice one. Might not have been a good idea to call this a 'launcher' though, as you might get some people coming into this thread thinking it's a disc or ISO loader or similar! Maybe a 'startup intro' or something.

Actually it was the initial name for the stuff... As soon as I put something customizable with some good effects I'll change the name... I'm working on it

How to create these type of dol?

Well just homebrew, serious stuff only used when launching the homebrew channel...

I got the jpeg loading code from teknecal's codemii tutorials... mp3 playing from minimp3 player...

I'll do a customizable version so anyone can use any image & mp3 and a selected effect like scrolling, stretching whatever I can get handy!

here is the scrolling one : http://www.tepetaklak.com/data/poclauncherscroll.rar

Added previous version's video in the first post...
Tomorrow will release the customizable version...

I am looking very forward to it.

Do videos take longer to load?

Even if the video is a very small file size / short in length?

You missunderstood

@nitr8, If you consider open-sourcing this, then I'm sure somebody could point out the bugs for you in the repository, such as walking through step-by-step on what it's doing.

I have 2 USB Gecko's. I'm using one for debug printout messages while I use the second one for realtime debugging within Eclipse where I make changes to the code

@nitr8, Ah good, having two is always handy.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Not sure why you'd want to, but it's a good thing at least.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
You need two if you want realtime-debugging AND debug printout at the same time. The problem is that GDB (the GNU debugger) needs a connection over a serial port while the other one also needs a connection over a serial port. You cannot send debugging commands and printout messages over the same port. It just wouldn't work. I've tested this.

I should probably see if I can run this natively on a PC using the original commits where I pulled the code from. Basically the repository is the same but the commits were different when it comes to the main game code and the engine overlay...

BTW: I saw you mentioned me in the link to the ROTT wall bug where a moving wall exits the game map.

  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
The original developers put an image into the code which would be shown once this bug happens. It's the one you see at the end of the video and it's also the same image I'm using as an avatar.

Anyway, I hope BLOOD will finally make it's way onto the Wii. I ported DOOM, HERETIC, HEXEN, STRIFE, ROTT and HEXEN II before years ago. I simply cannot imagine that it's too hard to get the game
    running stable.
