why are people acting like nintendo invented fighting games (big shocker coming from here!)
They invented the casual 4 player party fighting genre.... which honestly any game that comes remotely near the genre is called a rip-off now. Don't really see why we don't call out more ripoffs such as futuristic space fps, or jumping platforms sidescroller ripoffs. Honestly though, most of these games that look like smash bros tend to suck badly or just be overshadowed by Smash, titles such as digimon rumble arena 1 and 2 or tmnt smash up they just don't have that stuff that makes you want to keep playing it over again and I just don't see how this is going to be different, that K.O. mechanic sounds more derpier than randomly tripping on smbb >.>
Read their article and stuff, so its going to be more balanced and have a "robust" online, I get the online but they are going for a competitive play on something that looks so casual.... Just as bad as smash bros players who think the game is meant for tournament play. At least it will show how online should have been done for brawl.

I see no problem when sony use this style. Call of Duty is not a "ripping off" wolfenstein 3d for example. The game industry works that way since the beginning.

I'll not get this game, but SSB is not the reason for that.

Edit: Playstation All-Sars Battle Royale is not a dumb name. This game has a dumb name: http://gbatemp.net/topic/237612-ds-4991-kochira-katsushikaku-kameari-kouenmae-hashutsujo-machiteba/

Nintendo by no-means invented the fighting game genre, but they have capitalized on their own stylization of the 4-player fighter (as mentioned by the poster above).

For the most part, I haven't seen people acting like they invented anything, but I've seen more people mad because it's pretty clear here that Sony is ripping off of the Smash series. It's so bad, they're not even trying to hide it (Killzone guy has an AP Attack very similar to Snake's Final Smash, Fat Princess character has a move very similar to Princess Peach's Side+B buttsmash move).

Sorry, no other way to say it but...

SHIT, SHIT, TWENTY POUNDS OF SHIT.
It looks like we have a ....
And did you see the fighting mechanics? Fighting and fighting (no killing/K.O.-ing) until you build your meter up to Level 3, then, ACTIVATE FINAL SMA-err... AP ATTACK THAT INSTA-KILLS CHARACTERS.
I think they can fall off the stage, but yeah, I really didn't like the fighting mechanics as much as SSB.
And let it be noted that, again, you can ONLY kill other players with the Level 3 AP Attack. No other time in the match can you kill opponents, only when you use your Level 3 meter attack.
Disappointing really.
Its like Sony just took the Smash Ball mechanic, injected a meter-building system, made it the only way to kill anybody (why?), threw some bland characters in, created even blander mash-up stages (LBP+Buzz, dohoho...), and churned out Sony Smash Bros.

This game looks fucking terrible. I hope they change things, a LOT of things. Pathetic.
I actually like the mash-up stages idea...,but (is it me?) despite the change in color, most if not all the stages have the same style?

Pretty much...

Just the character of Fat Princess in the game made me think of Princess Peach.
They kind of have originally by actually taking out good mechanics...

They need to fill this with third party characters like crazy because sony just doesn't have the characters that nintendo has.

That looks...almost exactly like Smash Bros. Sony isn't even trying to hide the fact.

Except that it has bland characters that hardly fit well together as well as a horrible battle system. It's like they took Smash Bros and some developers and asked them to make a shitty version of it.

Yes it is.
No it's not.
Yes it is, it is not a tournament or pro fighting game, it is casual. Sakurai himself says its meant for casual, and there are so many aspects of brawl that show it is casual. It can never be taken competitively ever because of how it works, you can just run and wait and then attack the final blows to an opponent and win. No fighting game that is tournament playable lets you do nothing and win, you might have unbalanced tournament games like mvc2 but those with true skill will come out on top and for brawl that isn't true there are so many random factors like smash ball, tripping, items, and other stage hazards. Its just not a game that rewards skill, it rewards sheer luck and randomness with little to no strategy.

ITT: Haters crying "LOL SONY COPY EVERYTHING!"

Please why not just try the game out once it's released and enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, don't buy it. There is probably going to be a demo anyways via PSN for trying out games (unlike for a few platforms available).

If there is another option for a certain game, I'd gladly have it available. It's not like Nintendo hasn't almost f'd up a franchise or two with certain games. If someone, be it Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Nintendo, Apple or anyone else makes a better game at the time, I'd gladly take it.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
