Hello! I got my 3ds back after a year or something so I've been trying out pkmn rom hacks, and so far the Red Chapter one is my favourite. At first I didn't mind the clock being messed up and the game being set at night all the time, but I realized that RTC actually does a lot, from npcs to pokemon and shinies that appear at certain times/days.

What I did was download an already made .cia of the game, cause patching my own rom resulted in a black screen (ran the game on twilight menu ++, didn't work, mGBA was way too laggy ((still with a black screen as well)) while on laptop (vba) and phone (my boy!) was working fine.) So my last resort was an injected .cia cause I didn't understand properly how to inject my own.

But the RTC is stuck at 25:?5:?? or whatever, so I'm unable to unlock time-related events. I've seen a post with a RTC fix but it's from last year and I assume it's not compatible with Beta 14. Also, the patch file is .ups, and the gba vc injector says it needs a .ips patch, so I'm wondering wheter injecting the .cia with a .ups instead of .ips could work or those files are completely different.

Also was wondering if it was at all possible to edit the save data on pkhex. I'm getting save data corrupted text, and I do understand how the game is completely different from the original so the save would mess up. I'm looking to mass-edit the box layout on PKHex cause I want to try and fill as much of my dex as possible.

Sorry for the long post, I hope I was clear enough and hope I can get any response on these problems. (:

Bump? ;n;

Thank you for the link. I tried injecting as you explained with patches and rtc save type but upon launching the game i get a black screen, however the sound is on and i can move in game. Basically, it works, but I can't see anything. Now, I tried using the patch itself on a pre-made cia of the rom, and the RTC works, but only in 12hr format. Basically I can play morning-to-noon and the cycle restarts before it changes to pm. Any fix for it..? :(

Are you sure your patch work is being done correctly? Are the CRC-32 hash outputs matching what was listed in the steps?
The easiest way to mess up this romhack is if you don't use the exact *.gba rom dump of Pokemon - Fire Red Version.

If you're 100% certain you used all the right starting files and did everything to the letter, try fixing your 3DS system clock in System Settings → Date & Time and ctr-no-timeoffset,

Lastly, this game has been seen not to work as an injected GBA VC. Read the rest of that thread where an otherwise perfectly fine o2DS fails to render that game's text.

Yes, I'm 100% certain of the files, I deleted all files I had and downloaded them all to be extra sure that they would the right ones. I fixed my System D&T, even downloaded a new release of ctr-no-timeoffset too. Once I launch the app through homebrew my Time sets incorrectly, it's 7:49 AM right now, ctr-no-timeoffset sets my clock to 8:49 AM, so I have to go back and fix it manually. I tried changing it to 3 PM (15 in 24hrs format) and launch the game right after and it still shows 3 AM. I'm not sure wheter launching ctr-no-timeoffset and just wait for the clock to hit 3 PM instead works, but I'll give it a try and let you know.

The rom itself works just fine on vba, if not for the save file that I imported from my 3ds that doesn't show up the items on my bag (so if I were to continue the story and needed a key item, I'm not sure I could continue without those.) The game runs fine too on vc for me, no lag, graphics are great, audio works fine. It's just the clock that's been bothering me, since I'd love to do the timed events too.

If waiting for the clock to hit the PMs after launching ctr-no-timeoffset doesn't work, I'll just give it up and play the main story without those events.

@r0xass, it's not just you. I went back to check the romhack on desktop mGBA and NO$GBA emulators. Because I occasionally play PKMN Adventure - Red Chapter mostly in late night hours, I never noticed that this game uses a 24-hour clock instead of the 12-hour PM/AM. Thank you for catching this discrepancy. I'll add a side note to that guide about this bug. Sorry for doubting your ability to follow instructions. Extra attention is always reserved for new comers who may or may not know what they're doing or decide it's okay to take shortcuts.
  • GBA VC, NSUI injection (other save type): No difference with Flash 1MBit (Sanyo, ID: 0x1362) + RTC.
  • GBA VC, NSUI injection (GpSP forwarder): The game might crash at the start menu with this emulator. When it does run, RTC is fully functional. Only for New 3DS.
    • To get around the game menu not showing, put the save file at sdmc:/nsui_forwarder_data/gba_<tid_low>_name/savefiles/rom.sav (128 KB)
    • If the image quality is too blurry, Edit content optionsPixel perfect.
    • Forget it. This crashes a lot.
  • GBARunner2 (chainloaded through TWiLight Menu++ / nds-bootstrap): Game runs but RTC doesn't function.
  • mGBA (nightly release): Everything works including RTC. Runs decent enough on the New 3DS with minor frame drops in certain cut scenes. No chance playing this on Old 3DS.

Oh no it's alright! I pretty much know how to handle hacks in general, so I seeked out help because no tutorials had a fix, or said fixes didn't work. I'm glad you took the time to test it out as well, at least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. Thank you so much!

mGBA is really laggy for me, frame rate and audio also is distorted, I'm on o3ds, so I gave that up.

Last question though. Since RTC works just fine for me on VBA, is there any way I could uh fix the save file? Cause as I said, importing my savefile from godmode9 and load it up onto vba works, but my items aren't there. I could just do the RTC events on laptop and import it back onto the 3ds if the savefile worked properly, with items and all. But just importing the savefile from vba to 3ds again gives me an infinite item glitch. (My key items are all there, just infinite, and my TMs disappear. Everything else works fine.) Because I'm mostly worried for advancing the story and needing key items to do so (vba), or, getting new items and getting a 'bag full error' (3ds vc), so in that way I would be stuck and couldn't continue playing, since there's no known way (at least to me) to get rid of those items. I'm rarely home and can't play much on laptop, so it would be great if I could switch savefiles from 3ds to laptop from time to time.
