I hate adding U's to words when you don't pronounce it.

That's cos Americans are lazy. They also lack any real heritage so they don't respect the heritage of the language.

I believe that the actor Gregor Fisher once said that he was actually using an edinburgh accent and not a glaswegian accent

The people I know from Edinburgh don't speak like that. My mate Bens ex was from Parkhead though and spoke like that.

Ah, Trainspotting Talk! lol I know what you mean. It's like people think Scots say "Och, I dun noo" but I've never actually heard one say that in real life!

By all means, call it bastardized English, but it's certainly not English.

I didn't say that. Don't edit my quotes, please.

I said...

QUOTE(Sinkhead @ Apr 11 2010, 10:09 PM)
As far as I'm concerned, we don't speak the English language in England because it's 'the English language'; it's the English language because we speak it in England.

The language you speak is in many ways different to English. By all means, call it Americanized English, but it's certainly not English. I don't mind at all when people use the same language as us, it's fantastic, and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but please don't make it sound like you invented it.

They've now invented the term 'British English', as well, as if English wasn't British to begin with.
