Gaming PAL to NTSC usage

I have heard US Wii's working in UK but people in the UK have multisystem tv's i.e. handle both PAL and NTSC.
In the states, I noticed a lot of tv's do not handle PAL, just NTSC so the question is

will a UK (PAL) softmodded Wii work well on a US (NTSC only) tv? Or is it purely down to the tv having to handle a PAL signal regardless of softmod or not. I know original games may not work and some channels may not work either like news and weather (not a great loss).

Thanks. I have heard of region changer but I thought that might not work cos Nintendo support said it was due to the signal. Obviously I didn't tell support I have softmodded it.
I will look more into this.
