Switch Frame Tap lets you play your Switch games on your PC over a plain USB-C cable, no capture card and no dock. Native 1080p at 60 fps, with game audio. It's a sysmodule for Atmosphère plus a small viewer app for Windows and Linux.

Why another streamer?
SysDVR is great, but it streams the console's own game recording, which is locked at 720p 30 fps. I wanted the game's real picture at full frame rate, so this grabs the frame before that recorder ever sees it.

How it works
- When the game finishes drawing a frame, the sysmodule copies it straight out of the game's memory, the same way Atmosphère's cheat engine reads games.
- The Switch's own video hardware converts it and compresses it to H.264, so the CPU doesn't have to encode anything.
- It goes over USB to the viewer on the PC, which shows each frame in sync with your monitor. It's about 45-60 ms from the Switch to the PC screen.
- The sound comes from the console's own recorder and plays in sync with the picture.

What you get
- 720p60 in handheld, native 1080p60 when the game renders docked (ReverseNX-RT does that in handheld)
- Game audio
- Viewer apps for Windows and Linux
- Webcam mode: the Switch shows up as a USB camera, so OBS can capture it directly
- A homebrew menu app for the settings, and an overlay to turn the stream on/off or switch handheld/docked mid-game
- Native res PNG screenshots on a button combo
- Homebrew forwarders stream too

What you need
A Switch on Atmosphère, a USB-C cable and a PC. Windows needs the WinUSB driver once through Zadig, same as SysDVR. For 1080p, SaltyNX + ReverseNX-RT. The README has links for everything.

I've tested it on my Mariko on 22.5.0 / AMS 1.11.2 with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, BOTW, NSO and some homebrew. Reports from other consoles and games are very welcome; the log is in /config/switch-frame-tap/ if something breaks.

Silly question, but does this work on Switch Lite?

It should work but I don't have a switch lite to test it. If you do I would appreciate if you could test it and tell me

so I'm using the pc viewer and the whole stream is just upside down T-T it only happens to some games.
That's interesting, I will look into it

@Alert21boy fixed in v0.4.1: https://github.com/TomasUribe/switch-frame-tap/releases/tag/v0.4.1

@masagrator @proconsule54 good call on the flipped coordinates. Those games draw the picture upside down and tell the Switch to flip it before it hits the screen. The stream was grabbing it before that flip. Now it applies the same flip, screenshots too. Tested with Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which had the same problem.

Only the Switch zip needs updating.

Can i use it with the dock? to connect to the pc through the dock usb ports and let it plugged there and use it like i would with the official dock but through usb.

v0.5.0 is out: the viewer can record now. Press R and it saves an MP4 with sound to your Videos folder. It keeps the Switch's own H.264 as it arrives, so no re-encoding and no quality loss. R again to stop.

The viewer also has a main screen now that shows the keys and what it's waiting for, and it goes back to it when you close the game or hit HOME instead of freezing on the last frame.

There's a 30 second 1080p60 Mario Kart sample on the release page if you want to see the quality.

i meant to qoute the other message but i can't seem to figure it out, either way:
Not the user you replied to, but i tested it on my own switch lite, (22.5.0 | AMS 1.11.2) and it worked perfectly!

v0.6.0: streams and recordings are about 15-20% smaller at the same quality. 1080p Mario Kart went from ~100 to ~80 Mbps.

The frames between keyframes use a slightly lower quality step now (you can't see the difference), and the motion search starts from where things moved in the last frame, so fast motion gets predicted more often.

I also compared the Switch's encoder with x264 at the same quality: x264 needs about 89% of the bits, so there isn't much more to get there. A proper bitrate cap will come with streaming over the network.

Only the Switch zip needs updating: https://github.com/TomasUribe/switch-frame-tap/releases/tag/v0.6.0

Small one: v0.6.1 makes the Windows viewer a 2 MB download instead of 50 MB. It only includes the parts of FFmpeg it actually uses now, built right into the exe, and it decodes just as fast.

Just delete the old viewer folder and unzip the new one. The Zadig driver stays.

v0.7.0 is out: network streaming, so you can play docked now.

Set Connection to Network in the manager app, restart, and press Tab in the viewer to switch it to Network. It finds the Switch on its own (or press I and type the IP). Works over Wi-Fi or the dock's LAN port, with sound and recording like USB.

The quality adapts to your network so it doesn't stutter: when the connection is full the picture gets a bit softer instead of dropping frames. Over my phone hotspot it ran smooth at 1080p, latency a little higher than USB. A LAN adapter or a close router works best.

@Gef_Alves this is the dock support you asked about.
