Hacking options in backup launchers

So, I'm really confused by what a couple of these options mean. Could someone tell me what the different hook types are or what all the different vid features are? If someone could just point me to a site or something or just be a great person and tell me on here that'd be great.

Most of the options have to do with the output of the game. This is necessary when it comes to playing out of region titles as they sometimes need to be displayed in a certain mode. The others usually have to do with cheat codes and the such.

Well, that makes sense. What do the different hook types do? I use the IV one on .3 gamma but I hear some people say that's like the worst to use.
