I'd like it to happen, open source makes things happen faster. period.
but again, like all you have said, it would just make it that easier for some1 else to profit off of it.

I wouldn't mind a "Open Sourced R4." People could add some nice tweaks to it or rearrange the whole firmware. Don't get me wrong though, the R4 is a great stand-alone.

If R4 was open source the R4 team may no longer need to make the firmware. On the downside of it being open source you've got to really trust the site you download the firmware from because it may contain a bricker.

I voted "Don't Care."

As long as it continues to play the latest games (with or without the ARM7 fix), I don't really care.

Although I do find the lack of updates for almost two months now kinda disturbing.

I'll happily buy one if it gets updated.

Btw, you just got me an idea... Mind if I steal your idea and make a poopcard myself, completely with Conker-skin?

I don't see why they couldn't open the source and still develop firmware for it. Or instead of developing entire firmware packages, they could work on creating code that others could use in their builds like bug fixes, feature improvements, etc.

Its both good for the R4 and risky.
But the worst thing would be open source firmware for the CycloDSEvo becurse that would EASYLY make brickers for both your ds AND your CycloDSEvo ;S

I fear that if opensourced, you'd see lots of bootleg R4 being manufactured with multiple fork of the firmware, making it hard to maintain and for end users to sort out...
