I know for a fact that if the R4 Team made the firmware open-source ALOT less people would switch to the AceKard.
Of course, one of their selling points would disappear.

I wouldn't buy one anymore; the features wouldn't be much extra. But the combination of open source, an USB-port, 1 GB internal memory and SDHC-support makes it a nice cart.

I'll wait for the M3 Real... I wonder what kind of new features it brings.

I fear that if opensourced, you'd see lots of bootleg R4 being manufactured with multiple fork of the firmware, making it hard to maintain and for end users to sort out...

I doubt it would increase bootleg production, since they would probably load the carts with the official firmware anyways.

But the worst thing would be open source firmware for the CycloDSEvo becurse that would EASYLY make brickers for both your ds AND your CycloDSEvo ;S
It'd be just as easy to make a bricker and call it a normal homebrew application.

Even though the open-source is definitely a big selling point for me, I personally would still probably end up getting an Acekard.

Well, I already have a G6 Real so I have no need for an Acekard at the moment, even though it is a nice cart. I personally want to see a developer make a MUCH nicer GUI before I consider spending money on it.
