Yes there are drum simulators out there, but there are no bongo simulators out there :P
I feel like something special will have to be written for the dk bongo controller as it is more clunky than the rock band drums or any other drums.
Im going with stepmania to build on because its written in C++ which I need a project to practice in over the summer Holiday

And yes I thought of a work around... everyone has a microphone for their computer these days if the bongoes through gcn to usb adapter hit a hardware barrier.

Im just checking if anyone else loves donkey konga as much as me, because if there is a decent enough ammount of people wanting to play this Ill put a lot of effort into it.

If it turns out im the only one Ill just make something that looks terrible but still works/is playable

Sorry for typos, on a touch screen; typing on it is gross

This sounds awesome. I've never played the official games, but I would be willing to pick up a bongo controller to try this.

As awesome as the origional games are... you are limited to the included songs, which ive way over played
As clunky as the controller is it is amazingly fun and I think its simplicity lends itself to people's willingness to try it out.
Controlls are left drum, right drum, both drums and clap. The claping is a great game mechanic.

Its 1am here now but i cant sleep because my head is full of new game modes, layouts, designs mechanics and other ideas I want to design. Im going to burn through a few sketch books on this project >_

Eastern Time ftw, right?

The way I see it is write a special client that interprets those 4 controls as up down left and right.

Sounds like you're looking for something completely different. It would need entire different stepfiles because stepfiles for regular stepmania songs usually wouldn't work. Like you wouldn't be able to clap and press the left bongo at the same time to do say a left+up double note.

Don't know if you are familiar with donkey konga game play
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT7wjoKhdAQ

It's going to be a massive re invention of stepmania, probably need to write my own file format. I'm hoping the current stepmania file extension can handle this. If not oh well.

You can step on two arrows at once in stepmania right?
In that case it would just be left arrow, right arrow, both left and right arrows, up arrow would be mapped to clap.

Dunno if anyone is keeping up on this but I've started work on the Open Konga website

www.openkonga.org

It's a work in progress. Just something to be here; my html+css+php skills do not reflect my C++ skills, lol.

@[member="plasma dragon007"] Yah had to get school out of the way; this term at school was a mistake >_< I signed up for 16 creditHours, I normally only do 8 - 12. I've pretty much done nothing but school for the past 16 T_T it got very depressing.

Anyway school is done, and graduating this saturday. Nothing special though; just a 2 yr school/Community College.

So now I've allocated my summer to working on Open Konga. I'm hoping to have a playable beta version out by the end of august.

Today I'm taking a screen break and working on flow charts so that when I get back to coding tomorrow I'll have more focus, and some direction/focus.

Ho-shit, glad to hear back from you. I was starting to think this had turned into vapor-ware, but you're still alive :D

Hows any progress coming on it, if you don't mind me asking?

Got the Open Konga Forum set up. It's just a very generic forum. I'm using Simple Machine. It'll serve it's purpose until we get a web designer.
Head on over to www.openkonga.org and click on the Forum button.

Just wanted to give you an update. Porject is comming along well; I got stuck in an awards ceremony tonight, well earlier, so I brought my sketchBook/workBook along and got a lot of work done.

Now if only there was an Open Konga wikipedia page, lol
