(most of this is theory, bear with me)
As far as I know, when you start a new game on a wifi game, you are given a random friend code. In order for two 'friends' to play together, you need to have each other's friend code, which allows people to have duplicate friend codes as the codes of 2 sets of friends having the exact same friend codes is EXTREMELY unlikely. HOWEVER, if one were to edit the save files so that all the friend codes for a certain game were the same, wouldn't you eliminate the need to have friend code topics, as everybody would have the same friend code?
However, my assessment on how friend codes work could be completely wrong, in which case, disregard this topic
