So I did the steps i needed to do with my flashcard and then got to the part where i need to force it into sleep mode. Thing is that when i turn it on holding down X start select and power nothing really happens till i move the magnet away (it turns on like normal). What am i doing wrong? I'm following this vid.

First off don't use vid guides as they get out dated quickly use 3ds.guide. Second, You sure you have every thing in the right folders and stuff?

If the system doesn't turn on at all, it isn't registering the button presses. If it does turn on (blue light) but has black screens, it turned on normally and is in sleep mode. In the first case, make sure that your buttons all work and you are holding them as you press the power button (and hold them for a few seconds). In the second case, make sure your cart is flashed with ntrboot and is inserted properly.

This might help... A checklist to make sure you're doing everything from 3ds.guide right:
  • 1) Remove ntrboot cartridge and reinsert
  • 2) Ensure magnet position is correct and is putting the console to sleep (on old 2DS: ensure sleep switch is enabled)
  • 3) Ensure you are using the correct button combo: (X) + (Start) + (Select) + (Power)
  • 4) Ensure that you are holding down the button combo long enough
  • 5) Ensure "SafeB9SInstaller.firm" is on the root of your 2DS/3DS own SD/microSD card and renamed to "boot.firm"
  • 6) Ensure "boot9strap.firm" and "boot9strap.firm.sha" are in the /boot9strap/ folder of your 2DS/3DS own SD/microSD card
  • 7) Ensure the contents of "starter.zip" (Homebrew Starter Kit) have been copied to the root of your 2DS/3DS own SD/microSD card
(When I first used my ntrboot card for the first time, I had not renamed "SafeB9SInstaller.firm" to "boot.firm"... Before I fixed my mistake, it would look like my New 2DS XL system was just powering itself off each time I used the button combo... If this is happening to you, double check everything again!)

And yes, like others have suggested, ditch the video. Just use 3ds.guide instead.
