That looks ok. I believe there are multiple ground pins on that connector. I have two jigs, one looks like yours, and another one has the two outer-most pins shorted. Both work.

Yes but there is a huge societal pressure to conform to the norms which in the West are reinforced with religious beliefs while in Japan they are just enforced by old people, but thanks to the declining birth rates and everything, old people are the overwhelming majority so there's no escape.
