So using the noob guide https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-noob-guide-to-wii-u-hacking.451297/ everything is going perfectly.

Ive go to point 4. GAME LOADING METHODS

at which point it says I can now install and play my games!!! I think I will only install my region games, dont know much about the DLC so is it safer (less brickable) to leave it a this state than to go on and setup cfw ?

If you just want to simply install games without pirated DLC then you don't need CFW

Unless they want to install eShop exclusive games.

CFW is perfectly safe if you only use it to install game-related data (games, DLC and updates)
I suggest going with Haxchi and not CBHC. CBHC does have a slight chance of brick (you can only brick by user error such as formatting the system without first removing CBHC, deleting the CBHC title by other means shouldn't be possible with Haxchi CFW but I still don't recommend trying), don't use Mocha as it's pointless for most people and takes longer to boot than Haxchi's built in CFW.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll stick with were I am at then as I dont know of any eshop exclusive titles or DLC I want as its for the kids to play. And ill move the Hhaxchi icon over to the far right page.

Thanks for all your help and guides ppl.

Zelda BotW DLC? Mario Kart DLC? Sm4sh DLC?
DLC is a pretty important aspect in all 3 because it unlocks a lot of game content.

If he wants to do that then he has HaxChi he can tap. I think it's a good idea to get used to how all things work first for this user. Then when he wants to use CFW he'll be more familiar with the whole process. Me personally? I just have my Wii U boot to CFW and I don't have to worry about it.

So am I right in thinking, now if I wanted to install the DLC of say Mario kart (in my current state), I could install the DLC under WUP installer, then I have to tap Haxchi exit back to the main menu before running the game with dlc ? if this is the case what would happen if I didnt run Haxchi first before running the game ?

That's right. If you're not in CFW mode and you have non-legit DLC installed it will just give an error and not work. No risk
