MBR my hard drive is a samsung 500GB.

If you've already tried it as Fat32 with 32k clusters and it's the only partition, not sure if there could be a drive compatibility issue.

Sorry, beyond my ability to help, maybe someone else has another idea.

Edit: Mine is also set to PRIMARY & ACTIVE. However I think I heard one of those settings isn't needed, but I don't think it hurs anything.

What you usually do when a HDD is not showing anything on HBC? Thanks for help me! :)

Anyone can says what this windows error is, I've never saw it before:

"Index was outside the bounds of the array"

I'm trying install various (all of them to be exactly) wads in my hdd with showmiiwads. I've done before, and idk what is happening.

Hello good people - Long time since I have modded, unsure where to begin :)

I own a Wii that I personally have modded with a wiikey2 way back. I havent used it for many years, so I would appreciate some help to get started again. From what I can gather, heres is my system info:

Wii, bought it at launch day in Norway
WiiKey2 hardmod
System Version 4.1E - Its offline always
GameCube disc, Wii disc, Wii Pal & NTSC Backup disc all work fine
I have no SD Card in now(I have HCSD 8Gig and 32Gig avail)
Homebrew Channel is blank, says: Network not initialized 1.0.6 IOS61 v19.26

I understand theres possibilties playing ROMs/Apps etc from a USB Harddrive, I have several available.

Can someone aid me in what steps I shall take to "softmod" or whatever would be appropriate for my setup/or direct me to the correct guides, I would like to enjoy all that there is to Wii modding nowadays, it seems a wonderful console for that purpose.

I want to be careful so as not to Brick my Wii - I have started to love all my old consoles again =)

Hi! I don't have too much experience with wiikey2, but from what I read I know that all it does it let's you play DVD backups, so that's probably not related to the homebrew channel. What I would do first is update your homebrew channel. (This guide should help: http://www.wiisixtyfour.webs.com/WHG/Existing_HBC.htm ) once you updated your homebrew channel, you should install some apps in it! http://www.wiibrew.org should help you out with that. If you want to do more, there are a bunch of gbatemp guides for homebrew apps that you should get, usb loading, etc. (just go to the wii tutorials section) Hope that helped!

Thanks for the reply! Ive been looking through these guides all day long, its quite overwhelming but its starting to clear up for me.

What irks me is:

Lots of the guides tell me to Update my system firmware to 4.3 as an initial step to softmod, but I have Wiikey2 hardmodded with 4.1 now and I seem to remember that the official system update would brick the Wii. This is confusing me since the guides barely mention previous hardmods(like this one:http://www.instructables.com/id/Softmod-any-Wii-Version-10-43/)

You don't want to update your System Menu. If you do, at the very least you lose region free capabilities and possibly your WiiKey functionality, possibly having to remove it.

If you can run Windows programs get Modmii it will create a guide for you. A couple of question it asks are what SM are you on and which SM would you like to update to, just answer 4.1 for both.

Or if you cant run Modmii
goto Wiihacks Sofmod Any Wii and follow that one, looking for these sections:
Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed - System Menus 3.2 - 4.3
Part 2- Install The HomeBrew Channel and Bootmii
Chapter 2- Hacking your wii - Modpack - IOS Update
You want to install IOS58 first
Reinstall HBC so it's 1.1.2 and runs on IOS58
Update your IOSs while leaving your System Menu on 4.1

Being that you already have an older softmod, the SDHC cards you have should work for most of the stuff you'd have to update. A 2GB SD is pretty cheap but sometimes hard to find one in a store, might have to order online.

I hacked my original white Wii a few years ago and loved it - had an external 160 gb HD and 2 gb SDCard.

However, my ex got the Wii in the divorce.

I'm wanting to get a Wii again and hack it so I am thinking a used/refurb from Gamestop would be the best way to go.

Is there a particular model I should look for? Is there something I should stay away from? Should I make sure that the system is up to date first before I run HackMii or should I stick with a particular build? Is there a newer way to hack the Wii that's more efficient?

Also - should I get a 500gb or 1tb portable drive or go with a thumbdrive?

Thanks!

I've had my wii hacked before but we only end up playing a dozen or so games so I'd like to run EmuNAND with the games installed as channels on the Wii Menu.
How do you install the games to the menu? I can't find anything about how to do that.
Also, I'd like to run both emuNAND and games off of just the SD card without USB, or preferably both. Does SNEEK+DI allow both or is game loading either/or?

Hey, guys!
i'm thinking of getting a used not hacked WII (first ever) and softmodding it myself (never done that). I intend on using Letterbomb, but I believe the menu verison of the console is not 4.3. So are the nintendo online services still running and can I connect the WII to the internet and update it to version 4.3 that way and then use Letterbomb ?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can still update the wii to 4.3 online. Good luck!

Hey now. Another noob here. Tried looking around for an answer to my questions, but couldn’t find them, so here we are.

Apologizes or the wall of text, but I figured more info the better. So from the very top…

- I have a launch Wii that for years gave me all kinds of trouble. It wouldn’t turn on properly, mostly, I would eventually got a Wii U, largely to transfer all my digital purchases (which there were quite a few; please don’t laugh), due to the fear that the system would die and I’d lose all my downloads (and we all know how ridiculous Nintendo handles digital content).

- The transfer was successful and I was able to do a clean wipe, which seemingly fixed all my woes. I then decided to soft mod my system, and that too was successful. But I wasn’t able to do everything that I hoped to, largely due to the process being so confusing. I got myself a large SD card, in hopes of running disk images that way, but was unable to. I’ve since heard it’s not possible, while other sources say it is, though I’m not concerned about that atm.

- I eventually acquired a smaller SD card (cuz I heard somewhere that it being too big can cause issue) and a mini USB drive for backups. I took the larger SD card out of the system, and the plan was to transfer the operating system to the smaller one, but then life took over the project was brushed to the side.

- Last night I started the Wii without the SD card with all the softmod software inside (which I’m assuming the console was booting from). Because of this, the disc drive mechanism went haywire. Even after multiple restarts, with the SD card back to where it’s supposed to be, the drive goes nuts.

… I stick a disk in, the console just whirls for a bit, spits the disk out, slowly draws it back inside, before spitting it out again. I never forced anything in, so am pretty sure the OS is wonky? I dunno, any of this sound familiar? Would love to hear your thoughts! Again, from looking around, it would appear that I might have to disassemble the system itself, which is a bit of a bummer (since I’m not too technically inclined). Thanks in advance!

Great thread - thanks for setting this up. I have a 'partially softmodded' Wii and have no idea where to go from here. Two questions:

1) are there any threads for "where am I?" - i.e. guidance for people who have started a hack but not gotten all the way yet, and don't know what they can and cant do with their systems from there?

2) As for where I am stuck, Ive explained my situation in more detail here http://gbatemp.net/threads/partiall...pls-help-me-understand-whats-going-on.451304/

If anyone can help me, Id really appreciate it!

Thanks!! -R-

Well, for the games on an SD card, CFG loader is the only option, I'm pretty sure. For the disc drive, sorry, I've never heard of that problem before!
