Hi to all, ok I am not a noob since Ive softmoded my older wii but that one was at 3.2U. The thing is that I just got a new wii that came with 3.4U version. So I would like to know what are my options to install HBC in it and after that, install the backup loaders and stuff. The serial number starts with LU37xxx. Thanks in advance!!!

You can still do it the old way (twilight hack, beta2 for 3.4) or use the new bannerbomb (read stickies in wii hacking).
You can use those methods to load the HBC installer boot.dol

So what do I need to do with these, bearing in mind all I've been doing is following this guide by the letter (http://www.wiiguide.co.cc/), so like I said you'll have to spell it out for me really really slowly

Ohh ok so you have a cIOS already installed, then just search for "Firmware Downgrader" and "IOS Downgrader", the .dol files you get has to be named as "boot.dol", put them in a folder with their respective names, and place them into the SD:/apps folder, then insert the SD on your Wii, launch the HBC and load the apps, on Firmaware Downgrader select the same region as your Wii, be really careful on this (U = USA, E = EUROPE, J = JAPAN), and IOS downgrader just run it, no need to select anything, good luck let me know how it goes and ask whatever doubt you have before do it, better be a noob asking than a noob with a bricked Wii

Okay, I want to install the usb loader thingy, but the guide is down, so I hae nothing to follow.

Right now in my sd card there is;

I have homebrew channel installed, a friend helped me to install it for Brawl + (the game is so sex, anyways)

I downloaded the cIOS36_rev9-I but I don't know under which folder to put it, can someone please tell me?

My wii is the lastest update, the one with the sd channel thing, is that fine?

I bought an external hard drive, so I'm fine there. But where do I download the games?

If you're near Quebec city I'll help you for Mario Strikers

(J/K), you need to place the cIOS36_r9 installer in the SD:/apps folder with the .dol file named as boot.dol and inside his own folder, like:

SD:/apps/cIOS Installer/boot.dol

You need to install the IOS36-64-v1042.wad in the Wii with a tool called Wad Manager (first select it and press "-" to uninstall, then choose it again and press "+" to install), in order to be able to install the cIOS249_r7.wad, so then and only then you can be able to run the cIOS36_r9 installer without any trouble, then you just put the boot.dol of the USB loader of your choice in your apps folder in the SD as:

SD:/apps/usb-loader/boot.dol

and that would be it, hope your HDD is compatible..!!

Hi gbatemp community! I think your site/forum is great and I decided I wanted to give this wii softmodding a try.

So i got my hands on a copy of Zelda today and I'm now researching on the internet and figuring out what I need to install and stuff. I don't want any fancy programs or add-ons. I just want to copy my games to a HDD so I can play them all from the HDD without inserting the games everytime.

So far I figured this out:

- My Wii is running on 3.4E
- I need the Twilight Hack and I'm planning on using this guide with the 0.1beta2 of the TWH.
- With this I will install HBC
- Then I want to use USB Loader GX because it looks really slick!
- I also plan on using this WBFS GUI for managing my iso's if my external HDD is full and I need some space so I can backup some on my pc.

Is there anything I'm missing out? I have read several things about cIOS you need to install? Which cIOS will I need and how will I need to install this? (i'm not asking for the files, just the how to!)

I've also read something about a file that makes your Wii USB 2.0 instead of 1.1. What is this called and how to i install it?

As for brick protection. I've been thinking about installing Preloader, but I guess I will need some form of downgrading for this? Is preloader really needed if I want to prevent bricking or is there some other way to prevent patching from games, like before I play them?

I recommend cIOS36_rev10, IOS37, IOS38, IOS53, IOS55 (you'll need WAD Manager) and BootMii for brick protection. Create a nand backup with BootMii asap! If you're on an older Wii, you can install it to boot2, which = win.

I don't use USB Loaders, so I don't know about making the Wii USB 2.0.

I'm running out of space and all, so I decided to go to 4.0e

1) I'm going to use the ultimate guide thingy (found here). But some people say you need to update the official way. Is that the only thing to change in this guide? (or should I use wanins installer?). You can also advise a better guide, as long as I can play my vc/ww wads and backups (disc channel (wii and gc)+usb)
2) Also, it seems some wads will be deleted for space for the sd menu, correct?

Another thing I'm finally going to install is Bootmii.
3) Would it be better to install it before or after sym 4.0?

From the little I know, install BootMii BEFORE anything and backup your NAND to SD (& PC).

google and the search funtion of the site are your friends mon ami, and we can't tell any kind of info about games, roms, .iso files, .wad files as Wiiware or virtual console, etc etc etc, and it most be 4.0 (cause it is the latest) I wouldn't say that it is OK, but if you read and read a lot, you might be able to install the neccesary files to make it work....!!

Yes but you need to install IOS16 first, then use the WiiPower's Wad Manager IOS Selectable, to hang from IOS16 and install the cIOS in .wad fomat, and then, if you haven't installed the r10 of the cIOS.....well use the cIOS36_r10 installer..!!

Well you got it almost nail it, the file that makes the USB gets 2.0 is the cIOS249 you are going to install to make the USB Loader work, originally was the cIOS222 but then some gurus took it and use it to make the USB Loader, you are going to need "Wad Manager" to install:

IOS16-64-v257.wad
cIOS_fix.wad or cIOS36_r7 or ios249_r7 or r10 (depending on wich one you install, you may need or not use the cIOS36_r10 installer)
Preloader is a good app to avoid the updates on disc, same as starfall (althought is very old and it is only good for that), but indeed you'll need to either downgrade to 3.2 (recomended) or upgrade to 4.0, you only need two apps:

Firmware Downgrader, you only need to select 3.2 of your region (U=USA, E=Europe, J=Japan), and press A to start the downgrade
IOS Downgrader, only need to press A

after this, not really dificult at all downgrade, you will be able to install preloader on your Wii to block updates and enable other hacks/patches, you can always use tools to delete the update partition of the .iso's, but this tool is very usefull not only for that, it can also save your @$$ from a banner brick (installing a corrupted channel), any other question..??

I believe it is the same, waninkoko will only install the IOS60 - 61 and SysMenu 4.0, and if you update thru the Wii's Settings you will install all the IOSes bug-fixed

Nope, YOU need to transfer them to the SD card (when you have the SD menu) in order to have the space enough to load any channel into the Wii's NAND

Another thing I'm finally going to install is Bootmii.

Hello!

I am very new to the modding scene and messed up my wii royaly.

With the help of my friend, I installed the homebrew channel on my 3.2U wii with wiikey. Everything was fine and dandy.

A week ago, however, I did something very stupid. I obtained a copy of Punch Out (E) and popped it into my wii. It kept black screening, so I obtained another copy without "brickblocking" it and proceeded to stupidly accept the update. Upon the start of the update, I realized that I shoudl never update my wii in that way, and instantly went and pulled the power plug.

I restarted the wii and was able to access homebrew and everything just fine, but now whenever I go to the settings screen, an opera screen pops up saying:

"You tried to access the adress marc:FIX/US/ENG/index01.html, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web (url) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page"

Can someone help me get my wii out of this semi bricked state? I don't know what update was in punch out, but I know it was a European update.

I don't know what version I am at anymore since I can't access the settings menu, but I was at 3.2U before stupidly accepting the update.

EDIT: I cannot access the internet because my wii wasn't connected to my wifi signal at the time of the accidental update.

Ohh it is really simple, access the HBC, load Wad Manager and install the IOS30.wad and the SysMenu289, if you have the Need For Speed: Undercover or MarioKart of your region without brickblock, use WUFE to extract all the update partittion and you can find the IOS30 in there, the SysMenu you need to get it from where TJ says, or PM me, anyways thanks TJ QUOTEand happy 3000 posts, enjoy the blue ribbon

and BTW Punch OUT has the 3.4 update in it, so in order to make it run in your system you need to use WUFE too to extract the IOSes 38 - 53 - 55 and install them with Wad Manager too (not sure wich one of those is the one punch out needs
