just wanted to ask how do i change to look / icons in homebrew from //apps/NAME/boot.dol to something nice with icon and such?

Put the logo next to the boot.dol in a file named icon.png. Of course it must be in PNG format. The resolution must be 128x48.

get icons here: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Channel_icons (also check the icon packs)
(re)place em in the folder of the app
of course you can also make your own icons

Hi.

I was wondering if there was a way to transfer and use .wad files from the SD Card option in the Wii Menu.

When I try this, it tells me the information could not be loaded for any type of channel.

Thanks in advance.

You need a patched ios60 to run pirated channels from sd

Okay, so I have a 3.2U Wii. I want to upgrade to 4.0U. I want to keep the fakesigning bug patched, and I could probably use a guide to figure this out. That's not so much my concern.
Will I be able to play Animal Crossing and other games without worry on 4.0?

I'm also having trouble with MadWorld. Should I install any IOSes manually or will 4.0U also take care of the problems with MadWorld?

Help....

Can someone please link me to a usbloader channel which is child proof/requires no sd card/1.5 or latest and is a channel 9wad) ? can't find what im looking for as its for someone elses wii and they just need it simple!

cheers... paul

MadWorld needs a specific new IOS. I don't think a normal 4.0 update will install that.

Ok, so not really a noob, but a good noob question.

I want to update to 4.0. I am a bit gun-shy about loading channels, and don't rally think that there is any games that I would want to install that way anyway.

I have 3.3U and cIOS rev11
running the USB ISO loader GUI w/ forwarder channel
and obviously HBC newest version (it self updates, right?)

SOOO, question is this:

Can I run the 4.0 Nintendo official update and still keep current functionality? I don't mind being on 3.3U, and the 4.0 stuff is ok, but what really bugs me is the Nintendo channels (shop & info) not working.

Part II is this:

Should I wait till the gods software homebrew bootmii is finally released to do this. It supposedly will full crack the Wii and brick proof it too.

It all boils down to me wanting full standard functionality and the homebrew too, without worrying about bricking to get there....

You can't run shop channel? Should've researched a bit.

You must install the latest Shop Channel along with the latest IOS 61 (Don't forget to insert trucha bug) using WiiSCU

OT: Oh yea, I don't try to be offensive here, but I don't like people claiming they're not a noob when the question is. Before you tell me I'm full of my ego, I personally have asked here before (Never claiming "I'm not a noob" in the post too), and I bow down to Ether2082 who helped me.

I know I have answered many Q's here, but.......does anyone knows if the WiiSpeak Channel can work with another USB microphone..??

I'm running 3.2 with the homebrew channel currently installed. I'm looking to try some more stuff and have some questions, mostly clarification:

Regarding Waninkoko's Custom IOS installer and his WAD manager. My understanding is that the WAD manager can install WAD files, but because the CIOS is a .dol file that means it is going to install the CIOS itself. So I don't need the WAD manager to install CIOS36 rev 10, right? And if that is the case, what would I need the WAD manager for?

Regarding Starfall and Preloader. I think they are pretty similar, except that Starfall uses a set suite of hacks, whereas with preloader you can get it to use all of Starfall's hacks and some other ones you pick out yourself. What are the differences between them? Also, both of them seem to be pretty straightforward installations, but there is a lot of talk about how they might "brick" your wii--assuming the user is attentive to the process, what are the real risks?

EDIT: Also, can you play Japanese region games using the right hacks.ini file and preloader? I think I read that Starfall can't do this. If not, how can I play Japanese region games-use waninkoko's region changer?

Thanks a lot!

You run the .dol file installer to install the custom ios. It will need the original ios36 wad (it will be patched). You can install either locally from sd (put ios36 in root) or you can run a network install.
So for installing that cios, wad manager isn't needed.

Installation is indeed pretty straightforward. There's pretty much nothing that can go wrong.
Starfall is older and has less functions. Preloader is much better, so go for that.

Thanks a lot kedest! I'll install the cios in the morning and go with preloader.

On that note, does anyone know where a good hacks.ini for preloader is? I searched for one earlier and found a program for .28 and .27 that would make one but nothing for the latest version.

I have to questions. If you'd be so kind as to answer them, I'll be very grateful.

1. I have a certain app (DVD Ejector) that I'd like to transform into a channel for easier access. Right now, I have to boot the .dol via HBC, and it's a bit cumbersome given its function. I'd like a channel that's only a click away in the main menu, but I don't know how to transform said dol into a wad...

2. I have my Wii on 4.0 after following the "Ultimate 4.0 Guide". I have installed Preloader 2.9 with the latest hacks and the CIOSCORP wads. I can boot PAL games just fine in the Disc Channel, but NTSC games are not recognized, even though I installed the "region free Wii games" hack in Preloader. Anything I can do to solve this?

Would have taken the guff if you actually answered the question... and I've been on the scene awhile... everybody has a noob question now and again....

Okay...

1st: I have 3.3U. Should I update firmware? I've heard something about Wanikoko Updater?

2nd: Backup Launcher Gamma (with #002 fix) is giving me the error anyway. I'm attempting to run a Japanese Backup (with Region Free toggled "Yes" on Rebooter options if that's important.) I'm running off cIOS installer from v7 (need update?)

Lastly: You think any of these issues are directly connected to my problem? I've tried for hours to find the answer on my own, but I find a lot of this stuff over my head. Help?
