Not sure if this will help, I ran into a WD drive freezing up and found it had a small partition on it from the manufacturer that formatting didn't remove (probably the WD backup software) and in the first position was a very small (unallocated?) partition marked with an ASTERIX. I used EaseUS Partition Manager to merge them before re-formatting. You might also make sure it's set as ACTIVE and PRIMARY.

thank you for that info..i am using a WD as well..

I'm feeling the need to point out that, once again, the "active" bit has absolutely nothing to do with any Wii homebrew. (If any homebrew actually checks it and refuses to use a partition that isn't active, that homebrew is broken.)

On a sidenote: I've been working on another project unrelated to Nintendont, but I might get back to doing some Nintendont bugfixing this weekend. (I know about the SD+USB mixed setups issue; the Nintendont theme mod apparently has a fix for this, though I've been using SD for loader and USB for games without any issues since "the beginning".)

EDIT: The other project I've been working on is a shell extension called ROM Properties Page. It's not ready for release yet; I'll post a new thread when it is. (It's inspired by the 3DS Windows Explorer extension, but is cross-platform (currently KDE4/KDE5 and WinXP+) and supports Mega Drive, Nintendo DS(i) (not 3DS yet), GameCube, and Wii.

EDIT 2: Here's a sneak preview of one of the things the shell extension does...

problems arise when your dol is on usb and games on sd
mainly you get error -3 when trying to write any file on usb (such as titles file or boot.dol when downloading online updates)
My fix was to use zipped titles and boot.dol and to unzip them which fixed the error -3 also I forced many downloads to use the sd card when the boot.dol is on usb

So basically the exact opposite of my current setup. I'll check this out over the weekend.

reporting back: after checking my WD drive i did notice a tiny sized partition that does not go away with normal formatting via Diskutility, i previously used my Mac and also thru my Windows 8 via virtual machine using WiiBackupManager tools tab.. This time, i used Bootice and made sure it is properly formatted this time..now it boots my games from my HDD with no issues using latest Nintendont and latest USBLoaderGX, thanks everyone for your input..

Okay, now for some reason my Dualshock controller won't work. It just keeps sending me back to the Wii U menu when I try to plug it in. And if I have it plugged in before loading the game, it gets stuck on "Loading config... Done!"

Hiya! I'm trying to use Nintendont on my Wii. No longer my Wii U (It's at my Gramps to play family games because I didn't expect to be using it again, cuz, NX, soon, I had exhausted the games. Kind of a mistake...) It boots but I get this IOS58 error-thing. Troubleshoot says to extract it from a game but my Wii is already 4.3 and Homebrew is already IOS58, so what on earth could be wrong? Thanks for info :)

Hi...I posted a couple of months ago about GC games freezing randomly....well, I still can't figure out what's wrong. If I put my games on a SanDisk 32gb flashdrive FAT32 32kb cluster all the games work flawlessly but if I do the same on a SanDisk 128gb they freeze randomly, if I put them in my FAT32 USB HDD with my Wii games...they will freeze randomly, if I put them alone, they will freeze, if I use my 2 other HDDs and 2 other enclosures...they will freeze. The fact that the SanDisk 32gb works flawlessly is puzzling, I want everything in 1 HDD....everything it's up to date, Nintendont, USB Loader GX, cIOSs, etc.

seems to be an issue with either your wii or your formating isnt going well or something on your pc, there was a report that some person had that all gc games be it on nintendont os dios mios crashed ramdomly and it turned out his wiiu ram was dying and even wii games started crashing, also did you tryed the other usb port? maybe your other devices require more power and your usb port is kinda wonky and sometimes underpowers the devices or something, everything is possible, since nintendont supports all usbports try with the other usb port.

also you are on wii or wiiu?

I'm on wii. I have 2, one black that does not read burned disc and a launch white one....the problem appears on both...so you would think it's the HDDs/flashdrives but damn...2 different ones and a different same brand but bigger flashdrive. Evrything works on the 32gb one

maybe you have some custom mods on your homebrew channel? like color or themes?

I have everything stock...I even softmodded with Modmii recently both of them, Wii games work, Gamecube games freeze, from USB GX or Nintendont directly....thanks for trying to help :)

Maybe double check the other drives & SanDisk 128GB and make sure they are formatted as FAT32 with 32K clusters?

I use a 256 PNY SDXC Card in the slot and have used my 256 PNY Flash Drive in the past with out any Wii or GC issues.

Also with the HDD's, make sure there are no hidden or random partitions on them, no matter how small, this has caused me issues with in the past. If there are just merge them so only one partition set as PRIMARY exists.

yeah, it's been months I've been trying to find the cause....I'm using the hdd for wii and the 32gb for GC but it's annoying

Ok guys and gals....I tried something new...all my GC games were dumped way back when DIOS MIOS was used and they are NOT full-sized ISOs....I re-dumped Animal Crossing and it's been 10 minutes runing the "Press Start" screen without freezing so....for now...it seems I'll have to re-dump everything from scratch (too bad as the sizes will get bigger). Still doesn't explain why they work fine on the 32gb Flash Drive.
