I am on 5.5.1E firmware and i've just noticed after turning on my WiiU the Download Management had a red X against it. I clicked on it to see:

Does that mean Nintendo is pushing out a new firmware ?
I've got their servers blocked on my router and I'm using special DNS just in case as well.
Thinking about taking my console offline altogether.

That's normal when you've got the servers blocked.

This should be a bannable offense, if you ask me. It shows that you did absolutely zero research before posting this thread. We get two or three exactly threads like this one each week.

I think you just answered your own question.. On that home screen it won't be able to even check for updates, so it displays a red X.. It doesn't necessarily mean there is a new version out, it just means it can't even check to see if there is a new version or not because of the manual DNS servers that you have set that are blocking access to nintendo's servers..
