Nintendo 3DS source code leaked

3ds.png

Two in a row today!

The item of interest, barely four hours after the last major drop, consists of partial source code for the Nintendo 3DS family updated as of October 2014:

  • Source code for the 3DS bootroms and kernels, including modules (drivers) for 3DS mode.
  • Precompiled DSi and GBA bootroms (the latter being the NDS variant).
  • Source code for most developer titles, including many not directly released to licensed developers.

The above list is the result of a cursory analysis: it may contain inaccuracies. However, notably, it does not contain any regular system application or applet, meaning the inevitable question about what this means for the 300 icon limit can already be answered.

can someone add bluetooth controller support to 3ds now
the 3ds doesn't even have a bluetooth controller chip...
you would need the pokemon typing game cart inserted and create a 3ds driver to access that.
no other bluetooth stuff exists on nintendo handhelds before switch.

Hope this means hackers will steal some information and make updates for older flash carts for 3DS.
There is no way to update the oldest flashcarts, and if I'm not mistaken they all work on a 3DS with CFW anyway (possibly in conjunction with NTR Launcher).

No, that was Cruel. He's referring to RyanRocks. Unfortunately pedophilia has been a running theme in the Nintendo scene.
Hmmmm a game for kids, that grown men play that are pedophiles, didn't see that coming.

How did those Z-move bracelets communicate with Sun and Moon? I'm sure it wasn't bluetooth built into the cart since it worked with digital copies as well. Did you have to be connected via wifi? I was under the impression that you didn't need to be online to make use of the rumble functionality.

Emulators will never, ever, ever be able to use the contents of these leaks. This kind of thing can put them in serious legal trouble. Refer to this tweet back when Wii source leaked:

Are you expecting them to publicly admit to using the leaked code in any way? Of course they're going to cover their own backs while Nintendo is constantly keeping a close eye on them.

Never mind, I figured it out: The Pokémon Sun and Moon games make special high-frequency tones during the game, which are identified by the toy to automatically activate a synchronized experience with the gameplay. That's actually really fascinating.

What Nintendo should have done was release a more generic bracelet accessory for the 3DS earlier in it's life that any game could optionally communicate with if they utilized the proper high-frequency tones, effectively giving any 3DS game programmed for it, rumble (as well as optional neat light up and sound features too).

Please, Nintendo, don't get rid of the 3DS! Please, please, PLEASE don't! Please, please, please, please, pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaase!

This new discovery is interesting, however I am concerned about the future of the 3DS as a whole. With the source code available, it sounds as if Nintendo is allowing this to be distributed due to the fact that the cancellation of 3DS services is nigh. Of course, it could always just be that someone illegally hacked into Nintendo servers again, which happens quite a bit, it seems.
