Actually, the "i" in DSi was to symbolize "self", "me". It's just like the "ii" in "Wii" was to symbolize togetherness, not to mention the name of the console. Miyamoto said that in a interview a while back. Originally the DSi was about self customization with photos, the web browser and your own music. It was to be YOUR experience that you carried around with you.

It refers to both "individuality" and the camera "eye".

Sounds cool except...how would the 3DS know what I want to focus on?

It does it's AR in 3d using the 2 front cameras. So it definitely has the umph to do it.

That's easier than recording in 3D. AR is just taking the 3D images from the camera and putting images over them to appear 3D. 3D recording, I'd imagine, is a lot harder than that.

Well yeah but if you where making a video you aren't going to be doing any 3d processing and the CPU's won't be under anywhere near as much load blah blah blah. The GPU could probably help out encoding the video too.
