Well..
Yesterday morning, I played my o3ds xl as normal. Everything loaded fine, and I played some new leaf and smash. Later that same day, I went and installed Ever Oasis, and Blowout Blast cia's.
After finishing like, 3 worlds, I shut down and napped.

I woke up to play smash, only to find this message:

"Unable to find latest data for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Please close the game and go to Nintendo eShop to download the latest update data to your SD card."

I was like "...crap." and went to new leaf to see if it had the same issue.
It didn't.

It was WORSE.

"FATAL ERROR

PID : 0x00040030_00008F02
REV : 61806
AID : 0xFFFFFFFF_FFFFFFFF
ADR : 0x00223CD0
RSL : 0xC8A0CC04

Level: 7
Summary: 5
Module: 51
Desc: 4"

Followed by today's date and a prompt to shut the 3DS down and restart it.

Finally, I headed over to Alpha Sapphire.
Before I continue, it's worth noting that the games I'm having trouble with all have update prompts.
Even though, to my knowledge, everything is up to date.
They are all also impacting online games.

So, I loaded into Pokemon, and the game started as expected, and plays fine.
I wouldn't dare go online though.

So what is going?
Do I update the games, or is Nintendo playing with me again?

Did you tried re-installing the CIAs again?
or maybe it's your SD card...?
Well, turns out he fatal error codes were luma telling me what went wrong
without that setting on, I just go straight to the restart prompt on animal crossing.

Get an Update prompt with Swapdoodle too. >_>

Have you tried blowing out the sd card slot with air? Something similar happened to me recently where games started showing the "unexpected error has occurred, hold down the power button". Not long after Luma stopped booting so I cleaned the contacts on my sd card and blew any dust out of the slot.

If you want to be safe against sd card corruption, I recommend backing up your sd card.
