Happy new year all, happy sunday

So I have decided that the next old code I will dive into is NewoEscape #wii #homebrew. Last major release was in 2014. I am not sure how popular this one is but people do play it from time to time. This wii homebrew was originally conceived because I want to make a game that did not involve any shooting at all - so the game is purely about dodging rocks for points until you reach the end of the stage. The closer you dodge the more points you get. The game currently has 10 stages.

Things I plan to fix/add;

* add a boost and air breaking feature so you have something to add extra challenge + points.
* special rings you can fly through for what? more points!
* tighter collision detection and point calculation - DONE!
* remove the random stage generation and replace it with a fixed stage layout so that the stages are easier to learn - DONE!
* add 10 more levels bringing the total levels to 20. - DONE!
* try to improve graphics/explosions , more stuff, framerate, etc

If there is anything else, post suggestions and I will see what I can do. I plan to ticker with the game over the next months while releasing beta builds for testing (get ready for tonnes of screens) similar to the thread I did with NewoAsteroids.

Download it from now or when its done from; https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Newo_Escape

Play the beta
Finally took a break from coding. Download the unfinished beta of NewoEscape for Wii and vWill. Things left to fix; background music is a bit wonky. First couple of stages are a bit too easy. Final stage has too much stuff on screen so there will be frame rate drop/issues. Test it out and let me know what you think - compare it to the old version which you can also download from wiibrew. If it sucks let me know.

Here is a video from (2015);

Here are some screenshots of how it looks now;

@alexander1970 It is a pretty easy game. You just dodge the objects coming at you. and there are no enemies shooting at you at all.

@banjo2 I down sample the MP3 file in the game folder but it should still work if you replace it with another better quality file. It does slightly affect the framerate but it WAS mostly upload storage space issue at the time in 2013. I will use full quality music in the updated version.

Not much to show yet. I find the ship movement to be a bit sluggish in comparison to NewoFox so I think I am going to port over the newer ship controls and the camera in this game. Also the obstacles do not seem to like the new colour system.

Hey folks. Hope you all are well. No demo yet. Just dusting off the old code and re-writing the ship handling so that it is more responsive . I am trying to add a boost button and a break button while making the game play faster and more twitchy. Going to use procedural generation so that the asteroids are always in the same place. so you can learn the stages. No more randomness. 20 stages should be a good round number. I have to fix the score calculation too.

N.b. for those of do not know the game is about dodging through a constant stream of rocks until you reach the end of each stage. going to be 20 stages in total. You get more points for near misses and flying through the middle of the blocks. crash 3 times and you die.

Anyway here are some test screenshot which show nothing new but still

Some people like never ending games. Some like short games that they can finish in one sitting. I have a HARD, NORMAL and EASY difficulty. But still have no clue; how long (time) should a level be? and how many levels in total? Varied lengths?

Easy - 30-40 Seconds please.
I am a "Reference" for EASY.:rofl2:

Thank you.:)

I wanted to drop a beta this weekend but the month end just popped up on me like a thief in the night - could not get to much work before the new month. I have been watching starfox nes videos for ideas for new obstacles for the player to dodge. The newer starfox games seem to be less about the straight rail shooter sections and more about all-range mode which is sad. So who is up for a quick dirty beta test of what I have so far?

My weekend was filtered with an food festival and a trip to the country so did not get to finish the changes I planned for the beta but I guess that is how the story goes. I still got a chance to do a little work on it. Now I am tightening up the collision so that you have less of chance of flying through a object and not getting hit because its a game about flying through stuff! anyway have a good week.

I added a new thing to dodge;
