newbie questions regarding hacking the wii

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in hacking my wii by installing the homebrew channel so that I can pirate old games I never got to play in my childhood. I plan to follow the guide posted by Below Average Gaming(link below). However, I have some questions. My parents installed neoGamma a very long time ago. Does this mean my wii is already modified and following the tutorial will brick my wii? Also, I'm confused on how to download games after installing cfw. Any advice would be appreciated.
