I give up this is crazy, I emptied the card, formatted it the way you told me to. Put Akaio and menu4 in the _aio folder and put it on the card. Now it says system file missing and my kid can't use it at all

Ok nevermind. I went and formatted the cards and used the new akaio 1.8.5 and all is well, skins, cheats and all. Boy are my kids thrilled.
