would you be willing to pop it open and take a pic of the chipsets inside. im curious if they've changed at all or if they simply added micro usb hooks to access the firmware.

my priority curiosity is if it really does support private headers. all our theories that it does needs to be tested by the man himself.

on another note, my reseller not only agreed to upgrade my current blue card to the new one, but he is also 'agree/looking into' upgrading my other sky3ds card to the new one for a small fee once he gets the cards.

huza!

The circuits inside those carts are very tightly packed and partially glued shut - last time I opened a Sky it was a red button one and doing so broke the LED circuit, making the cart hard to use. I'll request PCB photos from the manufacturer and if I don't get any, I'll pop it open post-testing - for science!

Is it as simple as changing your template for all games, or is it setup per game(config file)?

If you don't mind. I know that for now all the secrets are belong to you.
The cartridge uses three files for overall configuration - firmware.bin (IC firmware), gamelist.bin (Sky's game-specific data) and config (user-made game files). User configs take priority if present, if not present, gamelist.bin is used. All your private ID's are stored in game-specific config files equivalent to templates.

Yes, i know. I own a blue sky3ds myself and i have ninjhax setup before. My reply was more to others who think in a general sense, homebrew , like example FTBrony can be loaded in the Sky3ds and launched. Which i don't think so.

As for playing other region games, i'm just saying it would be great if other than just skipping the AP checks, the firmware upgrade for the Sky3ds+ can trick the 3ds into loading other region games. If you use RegionThree/Four, you still have to go through the hassle of downloading the necessary files, knowing where to place them on your SD cards and waste time launching it each time you turn on your 3DS. You also get stuck with an old 3DS firmware whereas the main advantage of the Sky3ds is that it works with all latest firmware versions.
RegionFour works on all firmwares.

I believe regionfour only works till 9.8. If you are 10.0 and above, you use HANS.
RegionFour is just the region free launcher in HBL. It works on all firmwares that can run HBL.
*hax 2.5 and HANS didn't even come out until after 10.2 was out so it being required for 10.0+ would not make sense.
And what do 9.9 users do?

Smealum stopped development of Regionfour after 9.8. But there was a "Region Free Launcher" in Ninjhax2.x, if that's what you're referring to.

Where does it keep saves?

And region free launcher pretty much is region four.

Wow, can't wait to read the first review. I'm actually pretty curious what sort of firmware updates they can push into this cart.
As for homebrew, i'm going to give it a shot and guess that it will perform just like the old Blue button Sky3ds. Since the cart's supposed to emulate a retail cartridge, you can load in your CN or OOT and set it up for Ninjhax/OOTHax, and that's what they mean by homebrew compatible. :P

On a side note, if these firmware updates could lead to us playing other region games on the 3DS, i'll be even more sold to replace my blue one. :)

No kidding! But if you install Ninjhax, the homebrew launcher has a region free launcher in it, which I assume must work with the Sky3DS+ (it imitates a real card), am I wrong? Still built-in region free on the card would be stellar too ^_^

Well, I'm disappointed. The Sky3DS team said they were working on a fix for AP checks on old cards.
I asked the Sky3DS team could they confirm that there will be a fix and they said this:

Sky3DS said:
We will try our best...

I think that's the response we've come to expect from Sky3DS.
I, however, don't know what to expect. They'll probably not release the AP checks fix for old cards until after they release their new card. They know people won't buy the new card if the old card can play AP locked games.

It'd be hard for them to support the old cards.. It's hardware based.. Why else would they have had to release a new card?

Someone just needs to patch out the AP using HANS. It's possible but no one has bothered to do it yet.

The new Sky3ds+ card is firmware updatable, doubles as a micro sd to usb adapter, and makes the process of bypassing AP checks easy.
