It says so at the Sky3ds website.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I thought the USB port is just there to supply power to the Sky while the FW is upgrading.

"Insert your microSD card into sky3DS+, connect your PC and sky3DS+ with a USB cable (comes with, which can also work as a USB Adapter once connection built)."

That's what their site says: http://sky3ds.com/sky+.html (scroll to bottom its under the section "firmware updates")

PeachDS just replied back. They shipped it out already :wtf:

EDIT:

Nevermind they are just pre-printing labels. It has not been shipped.

Well, I'm disappointed. The Sky3DS team said they were working on a fix for AP checks on old cards.
I asked the Sky3DS team could they confirm that there will be a fix and they said this:

I think that's the response we've come to expect from Sky3DS.
I, however, don't know what to expect. They'll probably not release the AP checks fix for old cards until after they release their new card. They know people won't buy the new card if the old card can play AP locked games.
It's actually a pretty complex problem - the Sky3DS only launches signed Nintendo cart images, the firmware on the IC cannot be upgraded on the red/blue cart and any modification to the ROM in the relevant area would break the signature. Updating DiskWriter is not an option here without Nintendo's keys, the only workaround is using a CFW to bypass the check. On the new, upgradable IC this is no longer a problem, the new routine can be just programmed, hence the new revision.

They said they were working on a fix for the old cards. They seem to think it's possible. If they didn't believe they could do it, they wouldn't have affected their new card's sales by telling people that they were working on a fix. Unless they're retarded...

A crappy standard "we are working on it" reply that they send to everyone asking the same thinhlg doesn't mean they are actually doing it...

Sky team would have fix it on the old card if it was possible, without any hardware thing.

They had other opportunities to create a new card to make more money (they could have tell people that new3DS games only work on a new card or whatever). They didn't.

This time, there is a real hardware problem and it couldn't be solve without a new card because we couldn't update the card. Now that we can update it, it will be something like in the old time of the DSi... Nintendo push an update, the flashcarts team were pushing an update to counter the new AP thing by big-N. It's gonna be the same thing with the Sky3DS.

This new card may really be a good product, we'll see in the time but I don't see how this could be block this time.

It *is* possible, just via CFW (for instance Pasta). The only options here are A) modifying the ROMs (not possible due to signature checks) and B) disabling the AP check/spoofing its results (requires kernel access). It won't work on "all firmwares" like the Sky3DS normally does, the hardware is just not capable of faking a check it wasn't designed to fake. Designing, manufacturing and releasing a new design is a costly endeavour, they wouldn't have done it if they could just upgrade the old cartridges, as some users said above.

Yes! I've bought a few things from their physical walk-in store (I live 10 minutes from it) which is also where they ship out products to their online purchasers.

I live like 30 minutes drive from them but shipping is fast, only takes a day for delivery.

lol at the people complaining about this new cart. I'm sure they'd still complain if Sky didn't nothing about the AP. They cannot win with these people. The Sky team did this out of of necessity, and this cart is upgradable, so it should be more future proof than the rest. Y'all bought the blue cart. You have access to the vast majority of 3DS games, except for eShop only and these new AP games, and you have access to this library for ~$100! That's a great deal! Yet, the Sky team are the greedy ones? Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.

*Vince McMahon voice* The Sky3DS team didn't screw the whiny consumers, the whiny consumers screwed the whiny consumers.

Can't make em all happy. Its the next generation of backup users, thats all. Any body whose been in this for a long time now would know how it goes.

Someone just needs to patch out the AP using HANS. It's possible but no one has bothered to do it yet.
Proof? If you know it's possible, why have you done it?

I'm calling bullshit on this until I see evidence to the contrary. All I've heard so far is bold claims by nobodies like you.

A little update from the manufacturer regarding Homebrew: the Sky3DS+ supports it in the same way the previous cartridges did - via CN/OoT3D and other game-based entry points. Native support is considered in future firmware updates, but I personally wouldn't hold my breath. Since this is nihil novi and better entry points like tubehax/themehax/ironhax/browserhax etc. which do not require a cartridge already exist, I don't see a point in covering it in detail in the upcoming review - I'll limit myself to a hefty list of latest games, plus some all-time favourites.
