My .nds ROMs are failing to load. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the ROMs, the firmware (Moonshell I believe) or what, but it's only certain ROMs that won't load, and all my old ROMs still load fine. Any ideas what I can do?

No, that's not ok. Provide a picture that you took yourself of the front of the cart.
There are literally thousands of R4 clones out there, we need as much information as you can give to help you.
Step back for a second, we don't know if that's the actual cart we are dealing with here. That's just a stock image that you can get from google.
