Hi everyone, I have a R4 3D Revolution for DS card I have some issues with. I believe there was a failed update with it many years ago and then it now only loads a white screen even when I try new SD cards with various firmwares.

I believe it used to work when it displayed as the software "Meet the Robinsons" on my 3DS and currently it shows as Hiromichi Oniisan no Oyako Taisou Navi. Not sure which update was the last attempted one though do recall there was a failed update and then the cart would just load to a blank white screen without anything else displaying.

Is it possible to unbrick the card or fix it? I have a modded N3DS as well.

Thank you.

EDIT: I managed to file the old files for updating the firmware for 1.41 and also 1.44. I successfully managed to update the card to 1.44 and now it displays The Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian on 3DS however the game still loads into a blank screen when I try various firmwares. I used Wood 1.31 version.

Your flashcart is blacklisted on newer system firmwares. Its recommended to install custom firmware to re-enable the functionality of these carts.

Maybe try a different microSD card, older carts are known to be picky with SDHC. Go with something like a 2GB microSD then copy the kernel files to the root of the SD card.

Download the latest Wood kernel here: https://flashcard-archive.ds-homebrew.com/r4idsn.com/

Thanks for that reply. I actually tried the card on older hardware (DSLites etc) though it still has the issue. I've also tried different SD cards and eventually managed to successfully upgrade the card to 1.44 version on the firmware too.

I also tried the contemporaneous 1.31 and other newer wood kernels and they both still result in the white screen.

Hi everyone, in case anyone finds this in Google. My current game displays The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, though it still gives me a white screen when I try to load it. Tried various new versions of wood kernel (1.51 and 1.62) and it still gives me a blank screen. Would love to fix this cart if anyone has expertise.

I googled "r4 card time bomb" and clicked on the first link and copied the first comment I saw. Have you tried this:

The fix is easy, install YsMenu as the main primary boot firmware menu. This card works fine with YsMenu as a primary firmware, but needs a modified R4.dat to boot.

Download this edited R4.dat file:

Download YsMenu 7.05:

Backup your card, delete any folders from the old menu (or put them in a subfolder to be safe).

Put the R4.dat in the root of the sd card. Extract the R4i-SDHC (dash is important)folders/files from the YSMenu download to the root of the sd card.

Stick your card back in the DS and you should boot right to the YsMenu.

Another possible issue is SD card incompatibility. Some of these R4 clones require an 8GB or smaller card formatted FAT32. That would kind of explain why the DS can see the cartridge but won't load it. If you have an old SD card give it a shot. I still use a 2GB sd card in my R4 for this reason, but it can still hold dozens of trimmed roms.

Thanks for that. It is a 8GB FAT32 card and reformatted it again and still get the blank white screen even with this new YMenu. It shows the icon though it just loads to white.
