its just a new shell, as of this time the hardware has no changes, they added groove so when holding the R4 in your hand its easier to remove the microSD card, I originally had a white shell for my chinese version (at the time i believe english was white also) so i'm in the need of a black shell and this is just about the right timing for me to get one

EDIT: also looks more black than the old one

We now know the R4 Team aren't giving up on the R4, Hopefully a 1.12 will soon be available.

What probably happened is the mold for the old shell wore out and they had to make a new mold. The molds can be easily damaged if not handled correctly and don't last forever even if they are handled with care. When they changed the mold (for whatever reason), the casing appearance changed a bit. They report it because they don't want to hear people complaining that they think they got a counterfeit card.

If the old mold DIDN'T fail, then I see reason to complain that instead of wasting time with a new casing construction, they should continue to concentrate on updates, which we're a little overdue for at this point and they have been so diligent at providing up to this point.

If a new R4DS is in the works, I worry that updates for the current one will fall by the wayside.


At any rate, it does look like the microSD has been moved to the side of the cart.

I leave my R4 in my DS and only remove the microSD card when I need to add/delete stuff. The side grooves are useless. They need to spend more time improving the GUI/kernel and less time making the cart look pretty (which they failed at).

Just because there is a 'groove' on the side doesn't mean the micro SD card goes in the side from now on, both sides have the 'groove'

Yeah, I see. It's like little grips to grab the card by.

Still, I think it just a case of them having to create a new mold and that changed the style a bit. No big deal, but I already stated why I feel they reported it.

lol just bought one but this don't seem so different. I think what R4 needs is something to work upon and this is what they came up with. They are almost finished with updates like the only things left are SDHC and wii connectivity. Real time saves are not likely as said tht R4 dosen't have onboard RAM
It's actually very intelligent to change the design since ppl judge by the covers. If u have made a game with a girl's pic on the top obv. ppl will go for it. It's part of marketing and attracting customers so we will see what will happen no need to jump to conclusions

Just a question, if the indentation up the top is now gone, but the SD card still goes in the top, how the hell are you supposed to get it in and out? You wouldn't be able to push it it far enough to 'click' without that indentation surely??
