I think any card will work so long as the IPL can be injected. In some cards when you try to inject IPL it fails (due to lack of space or something? not 100% how the injection works)

The pandora battery will read the IPL of the card which is where it will get its initial loading instructions from. No IPL injection = No CFW install. (Even if you have all the proper files on the MMS, without and IPL it might as well not even be there)

I'm pretty sure the ones on DealExtreme don't support MagicGate.

But since you're in the UK...

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Memory-Stick-PRO...85&showOp=1

£20 for 8GB. MagicGate Compatible (Pretty sure you can't install CFW with an 8GB memory stick, though I could be wrong).

makes no difference if its MAGIC GATE or not from personal experience

I got a 2GB pro duo from DEAL EXTREME with my PANDORA as a bundle its UNBRANDED and 100% NOT MAGIC GATE supported (status UNKNOWN) in the PSP settings ..... and it modded my PSP PHAT 1003 series with no bother at all from firmware 3.90 to CFW 3.90 and then updated within the PSP to 5.00 CFW M33-3
smile.gif

I just set it up through the PSP using a USB CABLE and PANDORA deluxe 2.7 and it worked FIRST TIME and has for 3 more PSP Phats and 1 slim since then
smile.gif

and the 8GB isnt MAGIC GATE either but works fine! ....

I think its possibly just a few odd cards that are pretty bad fakes and not magic gate that the PSP has issues with!
smile.gif

The lexar is £7 more expensive than DX yeah sure its a legit card but ... I would say that my 8gb is pretty comparable even if it is minus the MAGIC GATE!

I've been using it for over a month now and not had any issues

Yeah, I think the ones on DX are actually just unbraded, and not actually fake.

Although I hear the write speed is pretty abysmal on that 8GB (3Mb/s?). Might take a while to fill it up.

You can get an 8GB Lexar for about £7 more.

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Memory-Stick-PRO...85&showOp=1

Which I did link to earlier in the thread.

Also, a lot of the cards on Amazon marketplace are fakes, not that it matters much. There's just a chance that the card could become corrupt and stop working, or have horrible read/write speeds.

o, I misread where it said "more buying choices".

Still, 8GB for an extra £7 is pretty good.

Just to warn you guys, my PSP Slim shipped with a blue SanDisk just like the one in the Amazon link, and it was fake.

What that means in practical terms is that every game I tried to run crashed within 5 minutes of running them (sound would drop first, then eventually buttons would stop responding, and finally the screen would freeze, followed after a while by a popping sound and it turning itself off). Afterwards, the PSP would refuse to enter the XMB unless I took out the MS.

Just be careful with what you get. I managed to get a £15 refund for that MS, which I used to get a SanDisk UltraII.

Erm... I'm not really sure if that's because it's a fake memory stick. It's probably just a FAULTY memory stick, but being fake has nothing to do with the problems you're experiencing. The only difference between a real and fake memory stick is the writing speed.

The problem with my fake MS was simply that it was a 4GB MS with modules designed to only hold 2GB. When loading off it, the MS experienced a bottleneck and effectively choked on itself, trying to extract the data from its over-populated modules.

...at least that's the basic idea I got told when I had a friend examine it. He's a specialist in flash media, particularly in spotting fakes. I'm not so experienced in the mechanics of flash media, but I trust him.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
