well, the addition of changing the skin text is a welcome addition i suppose

Say i've only got 10 skins
could i delete folders 11 and 12 and it only cycle through 1-10?

tbh i wish there was more room to put skins in

lol 12 is not enough, i have well over 42 skins!

I wish that it didn't cycle each month, just you select watever skin ya wanted

Heyy!!

It can be easily done only by pressing SELECT. You will see a Box that says "Manual Mode". In this Mode the "cycle each month" is deactivated! If you press again and again through your skins you will see after sometime the box with "Automatic Mode". So in this mode automatically the Skin in "theme03" is active. (because we have March)

There's already perfect compatibility with all games.

No there isn't, tony hawk still runs slow.

Yes, this isnt because of Firmware of R4, this is because you have low speed MicroSD.

Actually, as far as I know Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam runs slow on all cards. I have a JAP Kingnston 1GB and it is still slow.

Ive played that crap game without Slowdowns and I use Japan Kingston...

But it doesnt really matter because the other TH game is much better

I wish they would give us a proper update, rather than something so minor and (almost) useless. Makes me wonder how much time they really spend on developing it...

Well, still happy with my R4DS though.

Is there any way to keep the 12 skin selections without that silly calender?

I mean, having that calender there kinda defeats bothering with custom rotating skins if they are gonna be covered over with that calender.

I could easily have 12 custom skins rotating and I would love it, but I want it without that obstruction obliterating my image.

EDIT: DOH! I'm a dumbass.....I shoulda looked at the bmp's in the theme folders.....THEY have the stupid calenders as part of the bmp. All I need to is change 'em........

I'm going to edit me up some custom rotating themes now! Should be cool to have your R4 automatically rotate custom skins for you!

any pix on how the 12 different skins look like? I feel content with my current GUI, but an update's an update! Nicce to see the R4 team is still working.

The 12 skins in the update are generic flowers and grass type scenes mostly. They have each month of the 2007-year as a calender in the top screen. It basically sucks as a default. But you can change 'em to anything you want and have 12 custom themes to choose from!

The new trick (probably already solved) will be deciphering the the new ini file that lets you change font colors and whatnot.

It's pretty cool, but if you don't care about multiple skins, then this update doesn't mean much besides the new ini file for your custom skin.

I just went here: www.mavisxp.com/r4/ and D/L'd a dozen of the ones I liked best. Good to go. If you don't use the ini file, it will default font colors and whatnot to the way it was in the previous firmwares.

I put 12 nice skins in the folders and set it to surprise me with a new one every month.

I wouldnt say its completely useless. Lots of people have been complaining about the way the GUI looks... so its not like people havent been asking for this kind of an update. But, I do agree with you that I would rather see other useful features implemented.

Like:

Built in compression support for roms ala zsnes & snes9x
Built in cheat system ala gamegenie
Actually be able to use the touchscreen on the GUI for more than just the beginning screen.
etc... etc...

Ok, so i downloaded the non-calendar update and it didn't include an theme.ini file
Does anyone have one to send me?

Becuase, tho they give you instructions on the R4 site, it's is piss poor English and i've not gotta clue how to like the bastard out

Cheers people

Am I the only one who wants to see support for different font types on R4? Wait, don't answer that!

But no, really - I loved Pogoshell mainly because of its superb customizing capabilities and I think that some sort of custom font converter (or even manual one) for R4 would really hit the spot.

You mean support for compressed (zipped or RARed) DS roms? That's not possible, at least not with hardware like the R4. The games are run directly from the .nds file on the memory card. There is no memory area to decompress the rom into, and the DS doesn't have the memory or processing power to decompress the roms on the fly without major slowness.

If there was a processor on the flashcart to handle the decompression it could work, but then the cart would probably cost a lot more.

Which one ? Precise name of one homebrew app that supports DLDI and does not work properly on R4.
Read for yourself. It's an example of a smallish problem they should fix. There is no real reason not to.

It seems to be a trend M3 started with homebrew loading... a small thing they should fix in their kernel but probably never will. I feel sorry for the people who code stuff but don't own the specific card that has the problems, all it does is generate frustration and stall momentum.

Why wouldnt they just be able to dedicate a 128 meg chunk of the flashmemory for the decompression of the rom, and then clear it when you are done playing? Im sure it would take a little bit longer to load the rom.. but you could get a lot more zipped roms in 768 megs, than you could uncompressed in 1gig.

Here's how the color portion of the new INI file works. The 'about' portion should be obvious.

Change the color values to the six-digit HTML color codes you want to use; the values are RRGGBB (red green blue) from 00 to FF (hexidecimal.)

I suppose that would work, but I think it would take more than just a little bit longer to load. Maybe only several seconds for very small roms, but probably more than a minute for big ones. In addition to reading and writing to the flash memory, which is already slow, it will take a lot longer for a 66mhz system with 4 megs of ram to decompress a file than it will even on my slow-ass 650mhz PIII with half a gig of ram.

From the very beginning they have offered a simple, cheap, feature free product, and I don't think they will change that. Besides, 1 gig microSD cards cost $10, so I doubt that they would see this particular feature as being worth the trouble.
