Hey guys, I know I know, I'm a noob and what not, I still dont know much about the ds scene seeing as how I got my first ds lite yesterday when someone gave it to me for free, all I have is the actual handheld and the charger. What is the process for playing backups on this ds? Ive done all kinds of stuff with the wii. Is it the same level of work? I've heard of this Acekard 2 which will supposedly let me load backups off of a micro sd. Where can I learn all this crucial information I need to know to play backup games without screwing myself and buying stuff I dont actually need.

All you gotta do is buy a flash cart. Then a micro sd and put the games on that and put the micro sd in the flash cart. Simple as that. lol.

We all gotta start somewhere!

After you have created your backup you drag and drop it to the micro sd in most cases. It's then playable unless the backup needs a patch.

Personally i find ds alot easier than the wii. First shop around though acekard 2 is good but it'll probably be outdated soon. Supercard2 is out know i think.

Right here! we have tutorials, homebrew most of the things homebrew wise for ds. We also support each flashcart.

Oh and Welcome!

It all depends on if you want to use MicroSD cards larger than 2GB, and if you have a DSi or DS Lite. If you fine with 2GB or less and have a DS Lite, you can get a R4 from ShopTemp for $6. Thanks to Wood R4, this has excellent compatibilty and is a steal. If you want to use MicroSD cards larger than 2GB or have a DSi, get an Acekard 2i. Although it's the DSi version, it also works on the DS Lite. This will allow you to also use it on a DSi/ DSi XL if you later upgrade, there's also a chance it may work on the 3DS (to play DS games) as it's internal firmware can be updated.

While carts such as the DSTWO are better, they are also more expensive. Main advantage is that has an additional processor built in which will allow you to emulate GameBoy Advance games, and also has a real time save. If you want the realtime save, but aren't fussed about GBA emulation you can get the cheaper DSONEi This doesn't have the built in processor like the DSTWO.

I have a comprehensive guide to using Wood R4 here and a similar guide for the Acekard here

I suggest the DSONE(i) and the DSTWO. If you want to know anything about them, pose your questions in these topics

CycloDS Evolution.

Acekard2i.

SuperCard DSTwo.

Your three best choices.

The SuperCard DSTwo is the newest and has the potential to be the best. I'd go for that.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
