New details of BOTW Season Pass DLC 1

New details of the first BOTW DLC have been revealed by Nintendo which include new costumes, new items and details about the upcoming hard mode!

Trial of the Sword
When you get to a certain sacred location, you can take on the new "Trial of the Sword" challenge. Face an onslaught of enemies, one wave after another. Link starts the challenge without any equipment or weapons. When all the enemies in a room are defeated, Link proceeds to the next. Clear all the trials (about 45 rooms in total), and the true power of the Master Sword awakens.

Hero's Path Mode
This new map feature shows the path Link has walked through Hyrule from the last 200 hours of gameplay. Use the time tracker bar to see where you've spent the most time and where you have yet to explore. There's bound to be more adventures and maybe a shrine or two on the road less traveled.

Hard Mode
In Hard Mode, enemies gradually regain health, so take them out as quickly as possible. All enemies are also powered up by one level. For example, Red Bokoblins in Normal mode are now Blue Bokoblins. Enemies can also have higher maximum levels than they would in Normal mode. Look up, and you may also find enemies and treasure chests in the sky!

Travel Medallion
Somewhere in the world, there is a chest with a Travel Medallion inside. When you use this, you can register your current location as a fast travel point on the map. You can only register one location using the Travel Medallion.

It's base is already at 60 and 120 for bosses and guardians. Perhaps it would make it turn gold and have 120 all the time and remove the need for recharging

No it's not. Its regular base is 30 and it rises to 60 for guardians/bosses. I checked before I made that post (and I double checked just now).

That being said though, a golden sword would be really, really cool.

Hard mode is a good excuse to replay. Hero's Path and Travel Medallion too. Trial of the Sword will be worth at least one play for everybody as well, since you start with nothing.
Well they could have turned it like a NG+ gamemode.
Hero's path is sweet. Map is big, dunno if I went everywhere.

So is it confirmed this is for the Switch only?
Why would it be Switch only? To do like Bungie and Destiny?

Trial of the Sword: sounds awesum

hard mode: meh don't care

The Hero's Path Mode: what is this fitbit for zelda? useless feature!

The Travel Medallion: there's already plenty of shrines with warp points don't see the point in this.

The Korok Mask: alrerady know where they all are too late nintendo.

still not worth getting for me until there's a new area/dungeon to explore.

I will never ever accept the fact that hard mode is (part of) a paid DLC, it's absolutely disgusting.

I agree,I expected like an additional story line sort of like the skyrim/oblivion dlc. BoTW was mad fun but nintendos antics are getting old although I guess I will continue to buy their stuff.

Loving this update. Thank god I decided to not use a guide and didn't grind form materials. Still have some armors to upgrade and 650+ korok seeds to find, Hero's path + korok mask + small quests/hints to find the new gear + hard mode + trials should breath some new life, The only thing I don't know is if I'm going to play on it's release or wait the part 2 of the DLC.

1 month prior to the game being released they said the Storyline + new dungeon would come later in the year

it makes it never lose power according to ign
Trial of the Sword, previously known as the Cave of Trials Challenge, includes about 45 total rooms in which players, as Link, must defeat all enemies from one room to another, first starting out without any armors or weapons. Defeating this challenge will ensure that the Master Sword will "always be in its glowing powered-up state."

This "the true power of the Master Sword awakens" got me curious. Improved or unlimited durability maybe?
something that should have come free within the game as a reward for getting it..... and the master sword.

i know the fans will be haters of me saying this, but this dlc adds nothing really to a game that had nothing really to start with.

actual levels nintendo, the game needs to have actual levels, not setting ai levels higher (which some were ludicrous even in normal mode, some actually harder than gannon himself), floating crap in the sky and a hoard wave.

im done with the game anyway, no replay value and this paid for dlc doesnt sound like its adding much either.

something for the fans i guess.

Yeah, I totally agree. I was hoping for a new story or expansion to the story. I guess it was obvious this game was strip and rushed into release to coincide with the Switch's launch. This DLC 1 is obviously a content you will see post game.

About the Multi-audio patch:
I can confirm that it's in the Wii U version as well. It's in a form of free DLC update, and it's size is around 800MB.

This confirms that DLC is bad. Content is cut from the game and then released later for unreasonably high amounts of money. You get much less than 0.5% more content but have to pay extra 30% of the the full price. This and all the content locked behind Amiibo bullshit is not a fair deal. All DLC and Amiibo items should be part of the main game at no additional cost.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
