Gaming NES VC Games. The A B Y X Layout Button problem

In this thread: Very easy to tell who was born before the NES era.
Those of us that grew up with the NES, GB and even the Megadrive are used to different button layouts for different systems. I remember my digits being perplexed by the ABXY of the SNES for quite some time, though now it is a standard layout. And the 6 button Saturn (and some Megadrive/32x) pads I probably would still struggle with

That picture about sums it up. I hope they go back on all the VC games and update them to allow configurable controls. Using A/B instead of B/Y is not natural feeling to me.

By the time made the GBAsp the buttons got smaller, are you saying from the GBAsp>DS>DSL>DSi>DSiXL>3DS, your not used to the smaller buttons and how they are positioned?

Man, the controls are fine, it's only off by a few millimetres. I don't get why people are raging about it.

Or, if you have big thumbs like me, just constantly hold B with the left side of your thumb and use the other side of your thumb to hit A.

THIS. That's what I have done for the NES since the dawn of forever. It IS a little awkward since it's a SNES style layout, but a lot of SNES game required that anyways. You youngun' just need more experience, it all.

Smaller buttons are fine, the positions are fine, but the control scheme is uncomfortable. Ever since I was little, I've kept my thumb permanently pressed on the designated "run" button and then used the other part of my thumb to jump. Kirby, Mario, Donkey Kong, and everything else. It's not horrible for new players, but I'm too used to doing that. I can't do this whole B run and A jump, thing.

sorry for answering late.

I called Big N. of Germany/Europe and they said some of the Titles will get 3D classics!!! and they will put an options to rearrange the buttons.
As far as i understood we will get those updates for free.

I made a quick 30 second thing of how your thumb should be for playing smb, you put pressure on the left so your holding b and you just hit the right side of your thumb to press A

That's disgusting lol. I can't do that.

This is why we need alternate control schemes.

edit: I mean, physically, I can. But I don't like how it feels.

...So at this point were whining about really ANYTHING that Nintendo does thats not idea for us?
I mean seriously, Its clearly a emulator thats barely marketable and is aleast 80% finished which is just about basic game funtionality, Why would you make a whole topic to complain about something as simple as buttons?

This isnt even making sense anymore -.-

seriously, this are not amateurs, they are professionals. those things should not happen.
And as they will redesign it and even make 3d classics, its fine for me.

But it really just feels like crap playing it with this configuration, maybe you never played on an NES Games, but it was just perfect with the Controller. What they served here is million time worse than with the NESDS Emulator. With this emulator I could at least play with Y and B.

I agree that the controls are a bit uncomfortable, but lets remember. This is a unfinished product. Nintendo should have this fixed up when the games are available to the public. You people seem to forget that the on the Wii's virtual console that the classic controller alllows users to use the y and b button just like y'all are wanting. Patience.

reason for edit: grammer

I prefer the y + b layout, but I've adapted to the a + b layout, and have been playing zelda with it just fine. I would have liked an option to re-map the buttons, I mean it shouldn't be that hard for Nintendo to add if they get enough complaints, but since the games are free anyway I'm not going to complain about it... unless they have post play surveys on club nintendo...

This is how all games are played on GBA. Maybe those of us who are okay with the A + B layout are more likely to be GBA veterans?

Anyway, I do hope Nintendo includes the alternate B + Y control scheme as an option on the retail versions, but since Nintendo announced beforehand that these initial releases for the ambassador program would be 'bare-bones' original versions without no bells or whistles, I don't get all the outrage.

Going from the bottom B to the right side A wouldn't feel good, if you could go from the Y to B, that'd be much more comfortable.

If you have a flashcart, just play SMB or any other NES ROM for that matter & map your own controls...
