Hacking Need some advice setting up 9.0 N3DS

Yup currently at it, Gateway is running and backup NAND. Takes some time as it seems, only one small red bar so far.
Then format emunand, unlink nands, set up RX and bam thats already it. Thought it'd be harder.

Backed up Nand, copied everything from SD to PC, formatting EmuNand now.

I'm currently stuck at a screen showing me the rxtools screen in the upper screen, and a black screen on the touchscreen. Any suggestions?

Okay so I set up rxtools again, 10-02 build. I had the wrong firmware bin.
I replaced the hbl boot.3dsx with the one mentioned here:

Type2.

Now it boots directly into emunand. Says RX-E 9.0.0-20E.
I can also without problem boot into my Sysnand.

Problem is, I can't get into rxtools itself. Holding L when in debug screen just pops me to rxtools topscreen, black touchscreen. I had the idea of just using browserhax and HBL to install FBI cia but that won't work, I get a red flashing touchscreen.

So can anyone point me to how I can install FBI now? Or why my touchscreen stays black in rxtools?

Try changing the rxtools build. I read some where its a known bug.

First of all, black screen issue just needed a couple reboots. Eventually the menu appeared. After a lengthy fight with FBI injection I realized that it doesn't work with rxtools on N3DS
I used https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-inject-any-app-into-health-safety-o3ds-n3ds-cfw-only.402236/ to get the job done.

Now it works perfectly. FBI is into my H&S, my device autoboots to emunand, cia installation works.
Autoboot into emunand via menuhax didn't fail a single time as of now.

Very pleased.

Just a last, very noobish question. Can I delete cia files from SD after installing? Or do I need them to uninstall?

One thing that bugged me during the process is, there really is no guide for n3ds here that covers everything. I had to puzzle it together from various information here and there to get to my goal. Good thing I read so much about it and various tutorials because otherwise I would've really got stuck somewhere.

I wonder why that is, rxtools has been running quite a while now on n3ds. But there actually is nothing that covers it from scratch. Once you did it well yes then the process is quite clear, but I had literally not the slightest idea of n3ds cfw or exploits like two weeks ago and it was quite difficult to put together. For example the thing with fbi injection not working on n3ds, that stood somewhere on page idontknow but no word of it in the actual tutorial. It was all hide and seek to find my way.

Setting up 9.0 - 9.2 N3DS/XL for rxTools CFW, including emuNAND, coldboot, cia Manager

I wrote it from my memory, after I did it myself. Had some minor hiccups at the beginning but I believe they are all corrected now. There's one guy running through it at the moment, he's almost done.

wow, great work. I bookmark it for later. I decided not to set up gateway+ emunand until I finish my pre installed zelda game. I fear if my sysnand will linked with my emunand, I will update the sysnand instead of emunand. But I do not want to format my sysnand (this is the 100 % sure way) until I care about my game (which I lose after the format).

I have a Supercard Dstwo plus flashcard, but I might end up setting up an rxtools. .. seems the best for N3DS 9.0

Actually, since 25th of November (three weeks ago) cubic ninja is completely obselete but a nice thing to have. Now preferred path is using yellows8 new hbloader_launcher which is a cia that loads your homebrew launcher.

Browserhax will help you get homemenuhax through standard homebrew launcher, homemenuhax will help you get hblauncher loader through pasta/minipasta cfw.

This strange way of doing it has three positive outcomes over the classic tutorial:
a. you don't need cubic ninja at any time
b. Unlinking leaves you an emunand with hblauncher loader, and that is really nice as it "hides" FBI inside hbloader for fool-proof (kids-proof) builds. You only need to reinstall homemenuhax in sysnand and change the theme on emunand to get the setup almost done.
c. hblauncher loader uses a different ARM11 payload than homemenuhax and this let's you do more complex setups with hblauncher loader leading directly to hblauncher and homemenuhax leading directly to Cakes/Rxtools/CTRBootManager for faster coldbooting times.

I believe Decrypt9 can backup Sysnand and restore that to your emunand partition, which essentially does the same thing as the format emunand option in GW Launcher.

Yup, you are almost right. Remember you can launch gateway launcher from the browser in compatible versions.

You can launch decrypt9 with the standard HBL as well... Damn that would have really saved some steps. Interesting to know. I won't test it now though as I have everything up and running, and I'll leave my tutorial as it is. Because that works and I don't feel good about changing steps that I didn't Try out myself. But thanks for the info. Would've really saved some hassle.
