PS1/2 Need help on reparing an SCPH-1001. Any advice?

After no useful help on reddit and Assemblergames, I decided to post here instead. Why do i have such 0 luck with the older SCPH-1001 PS1 consoles even with the laser replaced with a KSM-440BAM? Ever since, I was raging with the SCPH-1001 and back in October 2017, I was cussing and raging on a Fix It Phil group on Facebook over on how i couldn't get an SCPH-1001 working because of scratched discs and disc rot. Also it's been driving me crazy. Is it probably the PS1 or the discs at fault. Do my discs need resurfacing? Does it depend on the scratch? If anyone owns a SCPH-1001 and has repaired theirs and works great, please let me know for advice. My problem is it will either slightly skip or freeze. Would cleaning the smudges help?

Try ripping the discs on a PC with a known working drive, if the PC can't read it then the PS1 likely can't.

Cleaning the discs can help although scratches may need professional equipment.

You may want to consider an ODE in the long term.
