Hi,

I'm trying to install a d2ckey chip using the alternate method (bottom side) but can't seem to get the solder to stick to the holes. Has anybody tried this and if so, how did you get the solder to stick to the hole. Some pictures would be great.

NOTE: I tried soldering to the chip pins and a couple of the traces were lifted. Luckily it is still working. I don't want to solder to the pins anymore but instead using the alternate method.

Thanks.

They have a protective lacquer covering them. You have to remove it from them before you can solder to them. You'll know when it's gone as the copper will start to shine. I like to use a fibre glass pencil to remove it , you can use a knife , but slip and you have a chance of cutting through the trace.

Once it's off , bit of flux on the point and the solder will stick to them fine.

Wow, so I would have to to go to every hole and scrape off the lacquer before soldering. That is a lot of work but I will give it a shot. Does anybody else use this method?
