Think I have a cheat device for N64 in storage but I cant remember if it was a Xplorer or Equalizer

equalizer is similar to action replay (uk name for gameshark) and xploder has it's own code format, i still have the box and everything else for my xploder 64, not sure if't it's working still as i don't use it that much now.

Indeed, Xploder is still my personal preference since they are more robust software and hardware wise

I got mine used at a preplayed store a few years ago for like 4$. Still works, but as others have said it is picky about which games you can use when. It's frozen up a few times, but nothing a reboot didn't fix.

Thanks for the info!

I'd be paying $16.95 for a Gameshark Pro v3.3

Is it worth it?

I wouldn't recommend a v3.3. I'd recommend a v3.2 updated to v3.3, because unfortunately v3.3 Gamesharks don't have parallel support* (even though it has the port on the back, components were removed that cause it not to work). However, to update a v3.2 to v3.3 you'll need an old computer running preferably Windows 98, but up to Windows XP with the proper programs. This computer will also need a parallel port on the motherboard. And obviously, for parallel port functions you'll need a Male-to-Female cable for it. Make SURE the one you get (should you choose to get one) has all 25 pins wired. Since parallel ports are (were) usually used for printers, some companies produce cables that only have the pins wired through that are required for a printer.

Of course, only worry about this if you actually care about the functions of the Gameshark that require a computer connection (such as rom dumping, ram dumping, restoring the Gameshark to factory settings, digital screenshots**, etc). If you really don't care about these, a v3.3 would be best I think because it'll come pre-updated, and this is obviously the best option if you lack a computer with said port and don't plan on acquiring one.

Your avatar is creeping me out with that grin... o.o

*note: this is not fully confirmed. While it has been confirmed that a large number of v3.3 Gamesharks lack the required components, I heard that some don't.

**note: for digital screenshots, you pretty much HAVE to have Windows 98 installed. Windows XP WILL work, but it'll often end up crashing the N64 because the connection will randomly time-out after 2 or more screenshots.

Sadly I don't have a computer with a parallel port or a cable.
So v3.3 would probably be the best choice.

Cool. Thanks for the info everyone!

So from what I've heard is that it is probably not going to just die on me unless I do something stupid, right?

My N64 gameshark worked fine for quite a while until my little brother, who wasn't older than 4 years old at the time, left it and Shadows of the Empire in it all day and fried both of them.
