That's not what the poll is about. They're asking "if it will ever be a reality", not "some time in the near future."

The Nintendo 64 was emulated in full speed on a 350 mhz Pentium II more than 12 years ago. I'm pretty sure its possible to do so on the 3DS.

There really shouldn't be a problem emulating it on the 3DS, the only thing I have a problem with would be button mapping.

A big ass maybe. Like, this big.

Maybe.

I see it viable without 3D. But it'll take some time to hack the thing.

Then again, the 3DS has shown some potential over PSP, which incidentally emulates N64 at some extent.

Yeah, I think it would work out pretty well if the yellow c buttons were put on the touch screen though.

UltraHLE was hardly an accurate or even good emulator and no one on a 350mhz machine got full speed on it

500mhz with a decent video card, yes. HLE was a dead end because of the horrid compatibility.

That said, the 3DS should be completely able to emulate the N64... Probably not every game, and probably not all of them at full speed... but judging by the specs we DO know it shouldn't be an issue.

Well.... except for large N64 games... The 3DS doesn't have enough ram for them... but most games would easily fit into the available ram.

Easily. The Wii has Wii64, which can flawlessly play and save Majora's Mask. The 3DS is more powerful like-for-like than the Wii, and it is natural that when it is cracked, a 3DS n64 port will arrive.

Even Conker's Bad Fur Day is only around 65 megs. The PSP has 64 megs of RAM and can emulate N64 games, just swapping stuff when needed (the swapping happens more often on the 32-meg models, of course).

In idiotspeak: Everything points to 3DS godmoding 64 emulation...

...right?

Hell, I think the D-pad would do a great job at the C button mapping. I can't think of any games that really honestly UTILIZED the D-pad all that much, (aside from maybe Mischief Makers).

Ah, but anyway. I gave a "Maybe". 64 emulators haven't exactly been flawless on the Wii (yes, I realize that the VC works, but the Wii was designed to emulate 64 games, correct? The point being, emulators through the homebrew channel haven't been super, and FPS are usually low). So. I think it's possible.. but not flawless.

I think it's completely possible. 100% Speed? Not really until they improve their emulators a bit.
I think I can see it happening, but don't expect full speed within at least 2 years after the emulator's release.

The problem is that the Wii64 team has finite time (they aren't being paid to do it) and don't have full access to complete technical documents/SDKs in relation to N64 and the Wii. That's precisely WHY the virtual console emulator works so much better compared to the general emu.

I dunno why everyone is talking so much about this. The NDS already has a homebrew N64 emulator. I've used it to play Pokemon Stadium 2 on my R4DS, it's not at full speed but it works. I honestly think the 3DS is more than capable of running N64 games at full speed with an emulator. (if an emulator is made for 3DS mode)

If you'd like proof of this N64 DS Emulator here is a video showing N64 emulation on the NDS :

That's not an emulator for the DS. It's a program that streams data from your PC to the DS.

Using that method, would it be okay to say your DS can emulate crysis? No.

Thats not an emulator. Direct from description:
QUOTEI have made a small program which runs along side Win2DS (An NDS VNC client/server) to allow you to play N64 on your DS.
...
Note that this is different to an emulator(though it works the same), a proper emulator on NDS is impossible, so this is the next best thing.

Basically, that program uses a DS VNC app (lets you use computer through DS) to send the video from the N64 game to your DS using an N64 emulator on your computer then button presses on the DS are sent back to the emulator on the computer.

At least, I think thats how it works.

This is not N64 emulation on the DS.

EDIT: Curse you Ninjas!
