So my N3DS XL was bricked for about a year now and I've came across this guide on how to unbrick it without any backup. Following this link on how to install a hardmod, I finally managed to restore my device. Since then, my device would work with and without the AC adapter, until I reflashed my patched NAND with win32diskimager which later unbricked my device. Now the 3ds can only be powered on with both the battery AND the charging cable. If any of these is missing then it won't boot, so I assume that neither the battery nor the cable is the problem. I've double check everything before putting back the cover and every fuses so I don't think its a hardware issue. Also, this guy seems to have the same problem but unlike him/her I didn't reverse the battery before powering it on. Anyway, if any of you could help me out it would be really nice! Thank you in advance.

Some informations:

- CFW: Luma3ds 8.1.1
- Hax loader or whatever its called: Boot9Strap 1.3
- No emuNAND
- sysFIRM: 11.6.0-39
- If both battery and cable are installed everything works fine.
- If only cable is plugged in, then orange LED lights on for about 5 seconds and won't boot.
- If only battery is intalled then nothing happens.
- MicroSD card doesn't affect anything.

If you need any other information please ask.

did you connect the battery to the 3ds while dis-assembled?
Odds are you connected the battery wrong, even if just for a second

I have done this.

I fixed it with a new battery and a new ABXY button board. This board contains some charging circuitry which was most likely damaged when the battery was connected incorrectly.

Like this board:

Yes I did but how could it have been wrongly connected if my device would turn on?

So I need both new battery and daughter board?

Im 200% sure its not.
First try with a new board. Also check the battery voltage with a multimeter. A healthy battery will be between 3.4 - 4.2 volts. 3.4v is almost completely discharged but still good. 4.2v is fully charged.

If the voltage is below 3v then that could be a sign of a bad battery.

^^this

The battery may not be damaged, but i know mine had voltage but would not take a charge even with the new board

I was able to charge the battery with a generic lipo charger, i still needed to replace the battery

I have another n3ds xl can I try to see if it works with that one? I don't want to break that one too.
