I was following the soundhax exploit guide on 3ds.guide.

Currently on the boot9strap install step. I was at step 3 and was able to complete the whole process successfully.

However, it does not boot to the SafeB9installer by itself or if i try to go to homebrew (using the soundhax) it gives me an error and won't launch homebrew menu.

Also my N3ds won't boot without an SD card now.

Section I - Launching SafeB9SInstaller
  1. Launch udsploit from the list of homebrew
    • You may have to scroll down to see this option
  2. Once it has completed, press (Start) to exit udsploit
    • This may take several tries
    • If it freezes, just force the console to power off by holding the power button, then try again
  3. Launch safehax from the list of homebrew
    • You may have to scroll down to see this option
    • If you get a “PM INIT FAILED” error, make sure you ran udsploit with Wireless Communication turned on
    • If you still get a “PM INIT FAILED” error, try using the

  4. If the exploit was successful, you will have booted into SafeB9SInstaller

Why would you need to boot safeb9sinstaller if it's already installed? Also, to solve the sd card thing, you need to copy boot.firm onto the ctrnand with godmode9. Hold down start while booting up the 3ds, then choose godmode9. Click sdcard, scroll down to boot.firm, then copy it with y. Afterwards, go back to the godmode9 menu and hit sysnand ctrnand. Paste the boot.firm with y and input a button combo of it asks you to. Now it should boot fine without the sd card, but I'd like you to go more in depth with your first issue.

  • If you have Luma, soundhax will no longer work, that is normal
  • Not booting without SD card is normal until you have finished the guide
  • You don't need SafeB9SInstaller after you have already installed B9S
  • Please finish the guide and don't do random other things

OP not to knock you but really, it should have been common sense for you to finish the guide before thinking something was wrong, and then visiting the "troubleshooting" section if you have issues after that before making a thread. At least try to help yourself first.

If you make it to Luma 8.1.1 you can solve the SD-less boot by injecting the boot.firm via the updater.
I think.
