Gaming My computer got remormated, i need help recovering the files

My brother was trying to upgrade one of my computers from XP to Windows 7, but for some reason it said it was upgrading, but it copied none of the files and then just reformatted it the whole computer! Is there any possible way I can recover the files?
Yes I know I spelled "reformatted" wrong in the title. I am not th world's best speller and I always forget letters when I write.

you could get a recovery files software, though it doesnt always work.
