Ok the chum scarecrows (the 2nd upgrade from shaka scarecrows) is ridiculous. Just fought steel Uragaan with them and i didnt expect the paralysis to trigger that often and i completely destroyed him. Im starting to employ a one weapon per element system to mix it up so i dont get bored of using the same weapon over and over but jeez iv never really used the dual blades before to take on a high teir monster before but it took me like 15mins to kill him before with Dios axe and like 8mins to kill him with the chum scarecrows. Nice easy way to farm him now :D

I didn't progress through G-Rank lately (still sitting at HR7) because I was helping my girlfriend with low-rank stuff. Since I don't want to carry her on my G-Rank equipment I've used the opportunity to try new weapons. I've started with Dual Blades which are super effective in terms of movement and damage, but they are similar to Long Swords which I used the most, so they bored me pretty quickly. Than I tried Lance and I think I like it even more than SA, this may end up being my main weapon once I catch up with High and G-Rank upgrades. I've also started playing with Great Swords today, the tactical play they offer is great and hitting lvl3 charges is so rewarding.
I thought that re-playing low-rank will be boring but playing in multi turned out to be super-fun!

Just did the canteen quest, Cold Day in Hell. It's not that hard, just...annoying. I ended up using Selene armour and poison dual blades to do some damage. I carved both the Wroggi (yay, mega potions), and ended up capturing the Brachydios. (I had eaten for felyne specialist, and gemmed in critical eye +3).

I got a pallium for capturing the thing. Now I dunno what to use it for, either armour or upgrading my slime SA (which I don't use that much).

Eating for Insomniac makes G.Baggis a walk in a park and since it's multi-monster quest, Brachy has reduced HP. It also has double 5% Pallium reward, so it's definitely THE Pallium farming quest.
Today I've been farming village Jhen for his set which looks cool and has ok skills, I will use it on my HR port quests when playing multi. Other than mats I've got some Evasion +4 charms with slots which is a great upgrade from my Evasion +2 O one I've used before.

Do you seriously consider farming G-Rank Black Diablos (and Sand Barioth to a lesser extent) less of a chore than Gigginox? Props to you, sir.
I'm currently in a process of upgrading my Helios ZZZXZ to the max level with tru sphere, I've got over 200 armor stones in the chest but getting meldspar is taking long :( My current setup with the armor is HGE, Sharpness +1, Speed Sharpening, Evade Extender thanks to my Evade Dist +6, Sharpner +7 charm. Since I have HGE I don't need Evasion +1 for roar dodging and with Evade Extender I can position myself better when using Swith Axe's side step.
Also a tip I've just found out for everyone trying to farm G-Rank Brachy, Volvidon X's Bio Master NEGATES SLIMEBLIGHT.

Black Diablos is annoying, hence why I'm going to my hunting group in a couple of minutes to get it done. I need stuff for it's diablos mashers and the stupid Kelbi bow.

Update: Did a whole lot of hunting today and we killed dire miralis today for me. I just carted once, after getting belly flopped to death. And I jumped to HR43! :)

To be honest, Kelbi Bow is not really worth it. You won't get better times with it, it's more risky to play in Gunner armor (some attack can seriously one-hit you) and it's only useful for the stuff you just can't melee. If you seriously want a cheese weapon, forge a Grongigas with HGE/sharpness+1/partbreaker/awaken/bombardier set, this is THE OP Slime setup. It requires a minimum of Handicraft +3 charm (or +5 for the last skill), but you can farm event Uragaan for pallium as soon as HR6, so it shouldn't take much longer than Kelbi set to gather.
Also grats on finishing Miralis, I will try to take him on as soon as I upgrade my Dios SA to max level

Ok, the set I was talking about is another mix of a Helios armor, so if you are already rocking a standard ZZZXZ you will only need to forge 3 new items (and a hammer). Here it is:
Grongigas Hammer (1508 raw + 400 slime awakened!)
Helios Cap X (yep, the Gunner's one)
Helios Mail Z
Helios Vambraces X
Helios Coil X
Helios Greaves X
Handicraft+5 charm.
With that you get the HGE, Sharpness +1, Awaken, Partbreaker and at least 7 slots to gem in Bombardier (more damage), Speed Sharpening (to maintain purple sharpness) or whatever you want

Since the set requires 8 bloody furs to complete, I had to learn how to HBG versus Golbeard. My setup is really simple, high-rank Rath Soul (Azure Rathalos) set gemmed in for HGE, Normal Up and CE+3 and Spheniscine God (this could be any early g-rank HBG that shots Normal 3) with limter off and power barrel on. The rest is standard, bring 99 Normal 3, 40 huskberries, 40 popfishes, book of combos and unload everything into his beard. Use dragonator when possible and times should be around 10-12 minutes. Great for Helios farming or making tons of moneys selling Shards.

So, I've been climbing Village ranks... but is it me or the game is way easier than P3rd?

I mean, I killed my first Jhen Mohran in this game solo, I had never been able to do so in P3rd, also Zinogre died without a fight and I have been killed Deviljho, once in the volcano without Cold Drinks!
I've also killed Diablos, Nibelsnarf and Barioth in less than 5 minutes at "Village High Rank"

I actually made the "Ashmaker" bowgun to farm Goldbeard. I'm not good with it, but I can bring down the annoying thing in 30 minutes. (I will probably get better with practice, but I'm used to tanking hits from Goldbeard.)

Update: Anyone have tips for S. Zinogre? I want to farm him for bugs (goddamn it, why does the bug X armour need it?), and I want to kill him in the process!

My progress through G-Rank is really slow, I've deep-sixed a Deviljho (which, btw gave me some superb charms, I wonder if it was extreme luck or is it always like that), but I.Lagi and Stygian are still before me. Also, I've met another person who plays MH3U in my city, so maybe someday we will actually form a 4-hunter party!

Yep, Stygian still scares me (I'm learning to bowgun with mr subspecies Zinogre), but as a blademaster...it really doesn't.

I still hate fighting G-rank Deviljho (will probably never make it's weapons or stuff, unless I'm fighting in a group). I ended up using a gunlance for my deep-six a deviljho - ow!

I'm still farming up parts for Rath Soul Z, my slime hammer (stupid pallium & god-damn mantle), and a few parts for the bug/butterfly armour. I might be taking on the Pleisoth for Moga Woods - capture master is a great thing!

I'm just making slow progress denting and farming up stuff. I did "Blue, Blue Skies" (double Azure Rathalos) and I let both of them pound on each other, and then turned to fuck up the other one. It flies back and takes a nap. I run there, and both of them are there. I dung-bomb the not damaged one, and toss a trap near the other one. It wakes up, and then gets trapped. I start throwing tranqs at it, and the second one hits the other one! It breaks the trap, and flies off. I follow and I set another trap in the front of it (after combining one and getting garbage)....it limps off to the side and flies off again. I end up killing it in frustration, and head off to kill the other one. It's drooling and I manage to kill it. In it's rewards screen - ONE RUBY...instead of a much needed mantle. *throws game off the a cliff*

I hate it that you can't carve rarest materials from most monsters, because that makes me rage when I mess up a capture and end up killing them. Brachy is the only decent one that lets you carve pallium :glare: I actually enjoy fighting Deviljho, even in G-Rank. I'm pretty comfortable fighting him with most melee weapons and I could probably Kelbi him with Evasion +1. I'm looking forward to Savage Deviljho!
Today I've managed to take down Stygian, he is one awesome monster! That leaves me with one more key quest to go until HR8+ (I wonder what rank I will end up after Dire Miralis)!

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.

Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol

I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
